This was the bridge between 80s snarky adult comedy Tom Hanks and 90s-Present endearingly wholesome Tom Hanks.

Can't remember ever seeing a trippy Rom-Com: Splash meets The Wizard of Oz meets Beetlejuice.

The only parts I found lacking were Meg Ryan's second role as the daughter that was an artist and some of the special effects look really dated now, but otherwise it was funny, optimistic, romantic, and immensely quotable.

I remember hating it as a kid. I may have to give it a rewatch.

Same. I actually tried to rewatch it again as an adult, and still couldn’t get into it. I have a friend that absolutely loves it.

I think it's great. But it seems to be divisive.

I saw it once in high school and found it quite unfunny. I’ve been pondering giving it another shot.

I haven’t watched it since I saw it in a theater,
as far as I can remember. I’m not positive, but I seem to remember fairly downbeat ending.

Oh, for sure. I think part of that was in the marketing and casting. Audiences were probably expecting a more traditional Rom-Com, not this shite that is as self-aware as a Wes Anderson movie and used production designers from Beetlejuice and Jim Henson puppets in musical numbers.

Dan Hedaya always is a boss, especially as Alicia Silverstone’s daddy.

This movie is routinely forgotten when talking about Hanks/Ryan movies.

I posted the scene in which Joe quits his job in the tirades thread. It's still one of my favorite scenes from that movie era, from the shot of Joe fixing the trampled flower to "I'm going to leave you here. What could be worse than that?"

I've accepted the fact that some people just don't like it, and I can get why. It's oddly supernatural and dreamlike, and Meg Ryan's three roles turn some people off.

Same here. I remember hating it and I have no desire to see it again.

It is not the easiest Rom/Com to get into. Quite a few folks, as you can tell, just don't get the movie.

I like it, but it is far and away the most difficult Hanks/Ryan movie for most people because.. well it is a bit different.
