He’s damned talented and has range for sure.

I agree. To go from Commodus to Johnny Cash(an endearing a-hole drunk) is quite the range in a few years.

DDL is the Goat. I like Joaquin, Leonardo Dicaprio has some acting chops. Gary Oldman is definitely up there with the greats.

In no particular order, I think it’s fair to say the are the best actors of the past 30 years.

Christian Bale
Daniel Day Lewis
Johnny Depp
Leonardo Decaprio
Sean Penn
Denzel Washington
Gary Oldman
Joaquin Phoenix
Philip Seymour Hoffman

I think we are starting to scratch the surface on the next generations great actors with Robert Pattinson and Timothy Chalamet.

And I believe Tom Cruise will be the last “Movie Star”.

He is one of them yes. But you can’t crown one imo.

Clearly a Boomer.

Leo, PSH and Phoenix are Gen-X.

I asked Grok to define best actor and actress this generation since the OP only said his which I'm guessing is current. Here's Grok parameters:

quote:

Defining "this generation" for actors and actresses typically involves looking at performers who have risen to prominence or done their most impactful work in the last 15-25 years, roughly from the early 2000s to the present (2025).

Also the OP picked a 50 year old actor as his top choice. He's a damn fine actor but he's not the "best" IMO.

For this era I'm leaning on RDJ heavily. He has the most range of any actor of this Generation. As for actresses people like Cate Blanchett is pretty damn solid

I don' thin you base it off age of the actor. Some actors don't get popular until their 40's and 50's and some as teens. So you'll have a 30 year old and a 50 year old making their biggest run during the same time. Those would be in the same acting generation.

Most of DDL, Leo, and Phoenix have had their celebrity during the same generation.
