This was a big Panama City hit in 2007. I guess Panama City during Spring Break is the closest you can get to the Jersey Shore, south of the Mason-Dixon Line.
I figured they would be playing a lot of songs like "Everytime We Touch".

You're truly an expert on all things Perna (which is an extremely common last name in that area).

Rehash mostly but a quote from playboy Spence-
MTV's "Jersey Shore" gains protesters, loses ads
"('Jersey Shore' furthers) the popular TV notion that Italian-Americans are gel-haired, thuggish ignoramuses with fake tans, no manners, no diction, no taste, no education, no sexual discretion, no hairdressers (for sure), no real knowledge of Italian culture and no ambition beyond expanding steroid- and silicone-enhanced bodies," blasted New York Post critic Linda Stasi on Monday. "Would that programing ever have been allowed if the group were African-Americans, Asians, Hispanics, Jewish people?"
MTV president of programing Tony DiSanto, an Italian-American, has remained largely mum on the subject, though he told one group, "The cast takes pride in their ethnicity. In fact, it is a key driver of how they bond with each other and self-identify. They refer to themselves as 'guidos' in a positive manner."
Former "Hills" cast member Spencer Pratt defended the network on Twitter: "Linda Stasi you should change your name to Linda Boring if you can't be entertained by young Italian-Americans enjoying youth and partying!"

Who would have thought Spence could bring rational talk to an argument?

This blog response gets it right
Italian Americans always like to pretend the "Guido" and "Guidette" phenomenon is just some cultural aberration and has nothing to do with the "real" Italian American community. This, of course, is a complete lie. You cannot disown a piece of your community simply because it is embarrassing.
In a previous generation "Guidos" were called "Greasers." In another they were labeled "Degos." In my generation we called them "Gumbas." Their modern form is the "Guido" and "Guidette." All of these sub-pockets of the culture, with various names thought time (Greaser, Dego, Gumba, Guido) are nothing more than labels for typical urban Italian American brashness, toughness, and bravado.
UNICO and other Italian American community groups and activists need to stop issuing statements for the censorship of MTV programming. UNICO, and its like, should instead issue a broad statement to the Italian American community to clean its own house and stop promoting the degradation of its culture. Its time to look within, instead of issuing fatwas against networks that film the natural behavior of the Guido sub-culture.
