Really wasn't crazy about most of it when it came out around 1970. Even less enthusiastic about the current live presentation.

Obvious they went the PC route on this production.

Only thirty minutes have gone by and it seems they have cut out a bunch of songs or something.

Going to give it a few minutes and then probably go to something else. Star Wars VII would be more interesting than this.

Compared to the original production, it is.

I was leery of it going in tonight. I loved the original Ted Neeley version, but if I remember they had some type of live version done from New Orleans a couple of years ago that I was really disappointed with.

This one is very good so far. The songs are the same and the voices are every bit as good as the original version IMHO.

I prefer the visuals from the original, but this indoor version works for me too.

Me too. I do kinda miss the tanks in the Judas scene though.

Kafka, we have to teach these pubes a thing or two about good musicals.

No, they've all been there so far.

I'm sort of glad it's not a great production, because the audience screaming and woohooing during the performances ruins any relistenability value it might have had. FFS, "Heaven On Their Minds" is when Judas lays out his case for betraying Jesus. It's a song of inner conflict leading to his breaking point, and they're cheering the big notes he hits like they're watching American Idol. What a wasted opportunity, like casting Tim Minchin as Judas in the 2012 Live Arena tour, Glenn Carter as Jesus in the 2000 movie, etc. I'm not impressed with anything tonight, and I had high hopes for Sara Barrels. I'd say I even prefer Sporty Spice, who played Mary in the 2012 tour.

Nobody cares what you think is a good musical

Wow, they have Legend singing Gethesemane to the camera while holding a bottle of wine. Hope god's watching and doesn't think he's just drunk.

Wow, Legend kinda sucks at this. His voice and acting aren't up to it.

You mean on a pure voice talent level? I admit the girl they have playing Mary of Magdala is a touch below Yvonne Elliman as far as vocals go, but I don't know if anyone could match up with her. And I thought the girl nailed the first song she did (Try Not to Get Worried). Legend stacks up good to Neeley in my opinion, except maybe for the that very high note Neeley had. Others like Caiaphas and Pilate sound just as good to me.

Neeley isn’t that great of a singer.

Original Album > the 73 movie

Ian Gillan blows Legend away as Jesus.

I don't know how many popular artists today could get to that note consostently. Brendon Urie definitely. Beyond him I don't know.

Let me know when they get close to Gethsemane.

That song is epic.

I'm really curious to see Alice Cooper's take on Herod.
