I’m looking at Supes now from a fresh lense and have a feeling Gunn will make a great movie. Glad to be giving the character a clean slate.

I’m actually excited about a new Superman. Loved Smallville and still think it’s the best interpretation of Superman yet - even if the suit was never used. Beats the newer CW show by miles.

I was never a fan of the movie DC universe though Cavill did a great job in MOS.

Can’t wait for the trailer.

James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ Takes Flight: No Universe-Building, ‘Top Gun’-Style Action and Why the Trunks Won Out

With just days to go before the worldwide launch of the first teaser trailer, The Wrap visited the Cleveland set of “Superman” this past June, where director James Gunn was battling the elements to bring his vision of DC’s Boy Scout to life. Between takes, Gunn sat with a bunch of reporters and revealed his approach to the Man of Steel – one that focuses solely on Superman’s story without getting bogged down in larger universe-building.

For the action sequences, particularly the aerial scenes, Gunn and his team are taking inspiration from “Top Gun: Maverick.” They’re using drones to capture Superman’s flight scenes. “We shoot a lot of our action with actual drones flying in and around Superman and the people that he’s flying with, Engineer, whoever else, that he’s fighting up in the air.” Gunn said. “We got these really small, crazy drones now. We’ve got some of the best flyers in the world here who are working with it.”

Pretty fortuitous to hire an actor in Corenswet for the role of Superman that can actually fly, apparently

From io9

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a report from the set of James Gunn’s Superman. This past June, io9 was among several outlets invited to Cleveland, Ohio to visit the set of one of the most highly anticipated superhero films ever. The relaunch of the DC Universe, starring the world’s first and most famous superhero, all from the man who made Guardians of the Galaxy. And on that beautiful summer day, we learned a great many things about the film. And while we can’t share everything we learned just yet, we can share some very, very cool stuff.

Superman and Lois was a very underrated show. Posters on here are talking about someone understanding that Superman is just fundamentally good.....well, this Superman was. Tyler Hoechlin was really good. The family dynamic took Superman's goodness to ne new level. Are you going to argue that any character in this was the best version of that character ever? No, except for Doomsday, maybe. But it was, to its core, a Superman story.
You should give it a watch.

I see that Alan Tudyk is attached to the movie in an undisclosed role. My prediction: Brainiac.

Probably just a cameo in this one to set him up to be the main antagonist in the Justice League movie or Superman 2 kind of like Zod was in the Donner Superman series.

He would be a truly great choice to portray the character. Will probably take the origin from the Animated Series where Brainiac was the computer of Krypton and leaving Krypton to die while taking a few specimens.

This.

It us a very good series and a solid portrayal of the goodness and hopefulness of Superman. And absolutely stuck the landing with the series finale.

New interview with Gunn

quote:

Gunn said his DC Universe “shares as many elements with ‘Game of Thrones’ as it does with the Marvel Universe,” in that he wants it to feel like a fully lived-in world that just happens to include fantastical elements.

quote:

“Superhero movies have taken these characters and said, ‘Okay, it’s Batman [or] it’s Superman, but it’s not any of the other stuff,’” Gunn said. “We’re embracing all of the Superman mythology. He has friends who are other superheroes. He has people he doesn’t get along as well with who are other superheroes. He has a lot of the things that we love from the Superman comics that we haven’t been able to see as much of in filmed media, and definitely haven’t been able to see in a grounded way, which is what I hope we’ve created.”

quote:

“I believe in the goodness of human beings, and I believe that most people in this country, despite their ideological beliefs, their politics, are doing their best to get by and be good people — despite what it may seem like to the other side, no matter what that other side might be. This movie is about that. It’s about the basic kindness of human beings, and that it can be seen as uncool and under siege [by] some of the darker voices are some of the louder voices.”

That’s very promising what James Gunn is saying here. He very clearly understands the character and loves Superman. Just a complete 180 from Zac Snyder.

Seems to have worked well for Batman.

“When everyone’s super, no one will be.”

I wouldn't be surprised if Gunn decides to direct this one. I'm bummed that Flanagan can't direct it
