Man of Steel was an overreaction to the boring Superman Returns. It was also produced with the misunderstanding of what made the Nolan Batman movies great. People thought the Nolan movies were “dark” and assumed that is what people wanted when the reality was they weren’t really dark, they were grounded. Plus they had compelling stories that were true to the character. Cavil was really given a port deck to play with.

Bringing the Williams theme back would be huge. The tone of this Superman seems to be more in line with Reeve. Only fear for this movie is that it might have way too many other characters because they’re trying to launch the DCU instead of it just being a Superman movie.

The Superman character is so overrated.

It very fundamentally doesn’t understand Superman’s character or appeal. Big time over correction from Superman Returns, that actually did understand Superman. It was just boring.

The further you get from the self-sacrificing Jor-El and Lara and the morally anchored and socially grounded Jonathan and Martha Kent, the more distant your Superman is from what he should be.

MOS just hasn’t aged well. Plus Warner Brothers has for the most part sucked at anything Superman. BVS is one the worst Movies-not just super hero movies -for me. So hopefully this is good- but I am a bit tired of Hollywood and everything it has to offer nowadays.

Many of us saw MoS for what it was at the time, and it was a complete trash heap of a film. All you have to think is what the hell is going on off screen for that film to fall apart. All of the stuff we were seeing was horrifying and Superman was supposed to seem heroic in all this.

Like this scene with Zod where they don’t even set up who the family is for this to be remotely effective, what’s another five people compared to the tens of thousands of people killed by Superman and Zod’s fight so far? Like it means nothing if you remotely think through what has been happening in this film:

The people who defend Snyder are mind blowing.

Justice League was actually worse than BVS. The guy really doesn’t know how to make a good movie.

see, and I feel like the payoff of him stopping Zod to save that family would have been amazing - IF not for all of the other destruction that was wrought.

I think the final scene of him killing Zod - to play off his choice to kill what could be the last surviving Kryptonian protecting the people of Earth, his home was a hell of a powerful scene, it was just invalidated by the Destruction Porn that Snyder laid out before.

is it a good movie, it is subjective to each person. I enjoy it, I just turn my brain off and enjoy the destruction.

I have faith in Gunn - he hasn't put anything out that I have not enjoyed the shite out of, so until he lays an egg - he has my support.

I never read Superman comics, but I enjoy MOS far more than other Superman films. Zod and Faora were great superhero villains.

I was never a DC fan - int he comics world. Batman was the 1st real exposer to DC I got. I never watched to original superman movies until Batman came out, and I enjoyed them well enough.

I feel like MOS would have been completely different if Avengers had come out 1st.

before you say apples to oranges, look at the comparative destruction in NYC from the Chitari and the Avengers fighting to protect the people - to MOS. I feel that if Snyder, or someone else involved in MOS had seen the balance that was done between the climax act of the invasion, it would have helped MOS.

but then again, it is Snyder we are talking about - so who knows.

After Guardians 3 I said Gunn is going to make the best Superman movie ever, it's been my most anticipated movie of 2025 since.

The score sounds like Man of Steel mixed with Reeve Superman. Which is a very very good thing.
