Why did Mr. Gower have poison in a labeled bottle anyway?

That was kind of my guess, that it mixes with something else to make it useful, but thought I would ask. We are watching it right now and I was watching it and went "Hey"....

I'm watching this for the first time and Stewart is talking like Nic Cage.. even his mannerisms.

Not saying exactly alike, but very similar..

Hey, are we going to have some dumbasses start talking about It's a Wonderful Life being some liberal, socialist manifesto this year? I'm pretty sure we had a few last year.

I started a thread about that 3 years ago I think.

Do you deny it?

shite man, even Baloo admitted as much in the thread, stating that Capra was known for his socialist ideas.

I just don't understand why you refuse to acknowledge the movie had a message when it very clearly does.

You can agree or disagree with that message all you want, and the merits of it are surely up for debate, but from this thread and the thread from 3 years ago, you seem hellbent on denying that there even was an intentional socialist message to the film, and even go so far as to ridicule those that believe it exists. Why?

Because a message about giving someone a break is not a socialist message. If you believe so, you are ignorant of (or completely misunderstand) American culture and history. The message was about caring for your neighbor . . . doing unto others as you would, etc . . . one that was taught in school and churches for decades, nay, centuries. This neo-hard arse crap that some of you young'uns espouse is laughable and can't be taken seriously.

i'm going to have to disagree with an intentional socialist message.

it's a feel good and christmas is all about the giving spirit. i just don't think it's any more complex than that.. plus this was so way back.

Frank Capra was no socialist. Despite being born in Sicily he identified -- as least publicly -- with old-fashioned Midwestern populist-conservatism.

IAWL can more accurately viewed as a cultural statement rather than an economic one, with Potter representing the evil influence of big cites on idyllic small towns -- illustrated, obviously, by the alternate-reality Pottersville.
