Buzz flopped because it was a spin-off nobody asked for and shitty marketing
Nope.

You may be a bit younger, I’m 40. The 12 year old just isn’t into Buzz Lightyear, even from a nostalgic aspect. I don’t know that she watched Toy Story 4 either though.
We're the same age. My 15, 8, and 3 year olds all love Toy Story and will ask to watch one of the four movies or the multiple TV shows (and Disney + shorts) regularly. None have asked to see Lightyear.

All you have to do was look at Minions to see parents are willing to take. Their kids to the theaters. And I can assure the newest generation are Toy Story fans. My 5 year old loves watching all the Toy Story stuff on D+.
And firing Tim Allen for Woke points is ridiculous. I rewatched Toy Story last month just trying to imagine Chris Evans in that role, and the movie just collapses. That movie is really held up by both Tom Hanks and Tim Allens’ performances. It’s such a good voice performance that the movie completely falls apart without them. I’m sorry, that move cost them of at least half the potential box office performance.
And as Belle points out, the marketing sucked. Just have Tim Allen out there talking with fans and being open and it grosses hundreds of millions more. Instead you have Chris Evans barely making any marketing intent just gracing Disneyland with his presence (which is an hour and a half drive from where he lives) and calling everyone a homophobe if they don’t like the movie. It’s a No brainer for parents to keep their kids at home over that.

The interviews with Tim Allen and Tom Hanks where they each questioned this casting decision were the nails in the coffin for this thing.

Yeah I’m mid 30s. Toy Story came out when I was 7. I’m pretty much on the high end of Buzz, but yeah you’d be slightly outside of it.

I still like the Minions though. But admittedly, those movies have been well done and they’ve managed to keep them pretty fresh too.
Well they personally annoy me though.

That’s fair.
I think when the first one came out I was working with middle school kids and chaperoned a field trip to see it. They just stuck.

But upvote regardless, I think you’re a good and honest poster.
I occasionally worry that you’re going to stroke out, but same.

Yeah and Tim is now (rightly) shitting all over the movie. Seriously, how hard of an ad is this: walk into St Jude, give out a bunch of Buzz Lightyear action figures, and Tim going and interacting with the kids, ending with a “To Infinity and Beyond!”
Instead you have Chris Evans simply showing up in Disneyland, posing for a picture, leaving, and then showing up for the premiere calling everyone a piece of shite if they don’t come to watch his movie. The marketing was so obvious if you cast Tim Allen. Send 10 million dollars to St Jude, say ten cents a ticket will be given to St Jude, and have Tim Allen front and center in the marketing, it would have grossed a billion assuming no Woke shite from there.

I think both you and OM have valid points about the marketing and actor changes that also influenced it too.
I honestly think, in relation to the OP about Thor, its a combination of variables creating a worst case scenario where if you don’t have a good, well casted, well written property its just not going to do well.
I also think post-COVID lockdowns, we’ve also made it a priority to get into different experiences outside of going to the theater that also narrows our budgets for movies as well. Last weekend we went out to the local nature center who was holding classes for kids 10-15 on interacting with animals at their nature preserve (she’s WAY into animals at this point) so we’d much rather spend that money on her being active.

Wait Thor isn't well casted now?

I don’t care about the multiverse.
If nothing matters in the world you create, neither does my attention to it.

The fact that all you got from that post was that, says a lot about you and what your intent in responding to me is at this point.

Sorry for calling bullshite on obvious bullshite. It says a lot more about you that you talk out of your arse constantly and never defend your "facts"
As for your edit, I have no "intent" when responding to you.
You wnaat me to address your BS covid excuse too or what?

Taking your kids to the zoo has nothing to do with post-Covid lockdowns. Everyone does that as a kid.
The reason Disney, including Lightyear and the MCU, are starting to suffer is quite clear. It’s not that people wouldn’t budget for it or they wanted to go to the circus instead.

Granted, maybe the new Fantastic Four movie can rebound the MCU:

Look at you deflecting instead of explaining yourself... Again
Posted on 7/16/22 at 8:41 pm to LNCHBOX
I’m not deflecting at all.
You clearly have your agenda (especially that now you’re following me around on other boards
). At this point you’re not worth responding to.

Following you around
. Get over yourself.
Why not just explain what you meant when you claimed Thor isn't well cast instead of this pointless nonsense? Why even make the statement if you won't explain it?
