I’m old enough to remember when my parents would simply drop me off alone at the theater, the tickets were $5.00, a popcorn and soda were $4.00, and then my parents would pick me up once the movie ended. Seriously they did this with me as early as 5 or 6 since I was well behaved and they were friends with the owners. That era has well passed and parents have to weigh their options.

That has more to do with parenting styles and what kids are into and how they consume media than it does with costs.

I love whoever downvoted these facts this kind of stuff stopped happening long before Putin's price hike

The Toy Story franchise has been pretty played out at this point. So that doesn’t surprise me at all. That’s the kind of movie that not that long ago was just going straight to DVD.

Bahahahah Buzz fugging Lightyear straight to dvd

It should’ve made at least $700 million

If Lightyear wasn't a garbage movie, it would have gotten the same word of mouth butts in seats maverick got. It could have and should have been huge. It's easy for you to sit here and downplay it with the benefit of hindsight, but almost no one saw that coming up until they started insulting fans

Well do you approve of race and gender swapping characters? Do you care if gay scenes are in Thor or Lightyear?

But come on, if your boy was say seven and wanted to see the Buzz Lightyear movie? That flopped solely because it was Woke. It won’t gross $300 million, and Disney has sold more Buzz Lightyear action figures than Mickey Mouse dolls. That’s simply incredible.

Why do you paint everyone who disagrees with you with a broad brush?

I get it. You thought you’d jump in here and skyscream about my pretty rational post cause you’re still mad about the other thread. Or you want to run me off this board. That’s not happening though.

Maybe a bit, but my best childhood friend and I (he’s now a preacher but we’re still very close) our parents would just drop us off at the theater every weekend and we became huge film buffs over this. Very fond memories of that.

*not only that but it’s clear Disney is pushing side “inclusive” characters (black female Buzz, black female Darth Vader lookalike) to the detriment of the main characters. People are catching on

I don't. I'm painting you specifically that way based off our interactions. Pretty ironic that you just posted about broad assumptions though.

I thought they did a poor job of marketing it to be honest. And I’m not surprised at the action figures. Honestly, the only folks I’ve seen that go that hard for Minnie are Disney adults (which are a bit odd) and Disney adults dressing their little kids in Minnie.

Such a bad take

Buzz flopped because it was a spin-off nobody asked for and shitty marketing

Is what it is. My kids don't know the awesome childhood I had disappearing for hours roaming the streets on my bike with my friends and being outside all afternoon and night every day. Times change

But Belle I’m relatively confident you’re my age. Name a more popular animated character developed in our lifetime than Buzz Lightyear? You will always like Buzz. You grow out of say the Minions, SpongeBob, and Pikachu which are the only ones I think may be in the debate. People our age should be dragging our kids to a Buzz Lightyear movie as a relief.

He sells more action figures than Mickey Mouse dolls and won’t get over $300 million in the box office. No one sure as shite asked for Toy Story 4 and it still made a billion. frick off.

All you have to do was look at Minions to see parents are willing to take. Their kids to the theaters. And I can assure the newest generation are Toy Story fans. My 5 year old loves watching all the Toy Story stuff on D+.

People aren't picking and choosing based on cost. You can get$5 tickets every week at most theaters movie makers are just putting out duds more concerned with messaging and box checking.

I would say cost definitely has something to do with it for us, because theaters are stupid expensive now and do not provide the value the price should demand, but we would still have typically taken our girls to 2-3 movies in a theater during the summer. The only movie we've seen in the theater this summer was Dr Strange 2, and it was filled with gay and trans propaganda. None of the movies they might typically be interested in are coming from companies I feel like I can trust anymore.

You may be a bit younger, I’m 40. The 12 year old just isn’t into Buzz Lightyear, even from a nostalgic aspect. I don’t know that she watched Toy Story 4 either though.

I still like the Minions though. But admittedly, those movies have been well done and they’ve managed to keep them pretty fresh too.
