looks like he'll be a shoe-in for the Best Actor for his portrayal of Winston Churchill

WWII movies tend to be Oscar bait but I'm sure some gay or black actor will take it. Maybe Armie Hammer for the gay pedo movie.

He's the betting favorite as of right now.

The only other name I have heard mentioned is Daniel Day-Lewis, but I think they're just going to give him a nomination as a retirement present.

Oldman has it in the bag right now.

He's competing in the supporting actor category.

Yep just like Casey Affleck last year, and Leo DiCaprio the year before, or Eddie Redmayne the year before that.

Why you wanna ruin his take by bringing facts into the convo?

But yea, it sounds like Oldman has it in the bag and there’s not one black lead actor that is challenging him or Daniel Day

James Franco I think will have a pretty good shot IMO.

I doubt it, the movie didn't get very good reviews.
Plus it's been Churchill overload as it was hard to top The Crown's portrayal of him.

I have an automatic bias against boardroom-generated, obvious Oscar bait films. It's cinematic masturbation.

Redmayne did win an award for portraying a trans. And a movie about a gay black dude won best picture last year.

Your point remains.

Redmayne won his Oscar for The Theory of Everything, not The Danish Girl.

From what I've read, The Darkest Hour is pretty meh. Everyone praises Oldman's performance, but the movie doesn't seem to be anything special.

It reminds me of Jackie last year. The movie wasn't great, but Natalie Portman was really good in it and got an Oscar nomination.

don't know, but i am sure it's a better performance than the 6'4" john lithgow portrayal of churchill in the queen.

Yeah I'm trying to decide if it's worth seeing the movie. Almost all reviews of it are the same. Oldman is very good as Winston Churchill, otherwise, the movie is very meh.

I think this can be said for most bio-pics. I can only think of a handful that I’ve enjoyed as a movie, Contol being one of them.

Huh? It's at 87% on Rotten Tomatoes and 76/100 on Metacritic. It's been getting very good reviews.

And who says you have to be in a good movie to get an Oscar? Meryl Streep won the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in The Iron Lady and that film was a critical bomb.
