My stepdaughter and I just started TWD this past week. We finished our last show (Lost) a couple weeks ago and were struggling to pick a new one. And we ended up on TWD. I forgot how good the first episode was.
I did tell her that we're watching it start to finish, and I was interested to see how it ended (I stopped watching after a certain someone was no longer on the show). So I missed the last 2+ seasons or so I guess.

They did seem to find the way to end racism. All mixed race couples. in TWD future there are no white people.

Season 1 is great
Season 2 is good

do NOT watch the spin off, "Fear the Walking Dead." Do not.
watched episode 1 of the Daryl Dixon spinoff. Was ok but, now you have to pay for mgm+ to watch the rest?

if walkers couldn't climb steps until much later, how did the walkers get to the rooftop where Merle was handcuffed?
also, Morgan's wife/zombie was able to work the door knob in the very beginning. then they were surprised when one was turning a door knob towards the end?

Yes but treat it like Game of Thrones and pretend it ends after season 6

It's pretty good until Rick disappears.

Watch it. Many people shite on the last few seasons, and I had my struggles getting through it, but I think its worth a watch. What you'll find is that certain episodes are slug to get through.
Season 2 is definitely hard to get through, but IMO, the pay off is worth it.
I stopped watching during one of the late seasons, but caught up over a break and started watching live again. I think you'll enjoy it overall.

The zombies were actually pretty smart in the first season. Upon rewatch I noticed that the scene where they are in the department store, walkers are banging on the glass with rocks. Then once they bust through the outer glass, they bang on the inner glass with rocks again.
And later on in the episode that one walker literally climbs the fence and chases after them.
I remember discussions on here about that back when it first aired, and we wondered if the walkers were banging the rocks because they happened to have them in their hands, or if it was intentional. But rewatching the first season, it definitely looks intentional. It's clear that the showrunners early on wanted the walkers to be sort of smart.

They’ve always been able to go up stairs.
Fences and ladders is where the show got a little inconsistent.

side note: this show fricked with my head for a while.
While I was binging the show we spent a weekend at a reunion on a friend's property camping in tents.
i caught myself a few times checking the fence line.

In the show’s prime, and with Game of Thrones, I’d be watching an unrelated show or movie and someone would die. I’d always catch myself waiting for them to reanimate.
Had to remind myself that doesn’t happen in every show.

That’s because they were barricaded.
There were several instances of people having to barricade stairs every time Alexandria was attacked.
If a stair stopped them you wouldn’t need walls anywhere, just a two step deck around your community.

bumping thread while doing a rewatch.
How much time passed between Rick getting shot and when he woke up in the hospital?
Why were the walkers so much faster in the beginning? In the beginning people had a hard time outrunning the walkers but, later on, they just had to keep walking to stay ahead of them.
When Rick, Michonne and Carl meet up with Morgan in that town where he has all the traps set. Morgan mentions people wearing dead peoples' faces. Did Morgan cross paths with the whisperers? Or was he just talking about the walkers in general?
Lori really is a pos ho. Her husband died. the world is going to shite and she's fricking his best friend in the dirt in the woods.
Also, when Rick is trying to help Sophia, he tells her the walkers don't get winded. But, there are times where they look like they're sleeping and, they wake up when people get near them or make noise
