Absolutely. Southern gothic at its finest. It goes a little silly towards the end (those who've seen it.know what scene) but it's a right fine tale.

Yes, Mccoughnahey is one of the very very few in Hollywood who can do a proper good ole boy accent...obviously because he was raised in Longview, but on movie like Mud he really amps it's up.
The movie also feels extremely authentic due to both he director and most of the principle actors being southern, mostly from Arkansas/East Texas and Witherspoon is from Tennessee I believe.
As someone posted earlier it's classic Southern Gothic, extremely worth watching.
