I dislike the kid because he went out there died like an idiot.

He went out there to "live in the Alaskan wild and uncharted territory." Well he strolled up on a bus that hunters used as shelter during the season. He wasn't in the middle of nowhere. How the frick did he think the bus got there? Remember that last guy in the movie that brought him out there? Well that guy begged him to take a map and a compass. (Something the American adventurer spirit people would have done.) Had he had the map he would have known there was a spot down river that he could have crossed and survived. Did he have an idea that he committed to and carried out? Yes. But that doesn't excuse how fricking dumb and selfish that kid is. If I had an idea to go off Niagara Falls and died, would you respect my commitment to my idea? No because it was fricking stupid and selfish.

Well there is a difference between a "dream" that leads to obvious instant death and one that doesn't. Just saying.

Exaggerate much?

Ignorantly believing you have it in you to brave the wild without the proper training and tools /= taking a swan dive off Niagara Falls.

Coming from an outdoorsman background, I found it quite absurd that this moron thought he could go to Alaska with a gun and a prayer and hope to survive. I love when Mother Nature does her job and thins the herd. Good movie though.

I think guys like McCandless and Timothy Treadwell did favors to society in the long run. They showed millions of people that the wild isn't nothing like your local state park.

McCandless was actually fairly close to some cabins and a community. I used to have land in Windy Hills a few miles North of Healy.

Still, every year some tourist wanting to find "the bus" has to get rescued.

Yea I exaggerated, but I think he had a jackass idea. Much like going over the edge of the falls (which people have done and survived.)

To each their own, though.

Yes, "Grizzly Man" thought that he too, could Master Nature.
The Bears disagreed.

Honestly, I do think he might have gone out there with the notion in his head that he would die. It just doesn't make any sense that he would not take a map and compass if he planned on "surviving." shite, the whole plan was stupid. He fricking brought a bunch of rice from a store. He didn't actually go out there and survive on hunting, fishing, and gathering like he would if he wanted to truly "brave the wilderness." The guy was just fricked in the head.

Lived in Alaska awhile, I wanted to punch this dude in the nuts if he was still alive for being so incredibly dumb. Didn't like the movie.

As it's been said, I sort of hate him. Part of me envies his ability to just leave everything, but he's a complete idiot overall

I've never understood the point of making a movie about some fricking idiot who got themselves killed because they didn't have any respect for the wilderness or situation they put themselves into.
