Still don’t get why they didn’t figure out the time issue on the planet nearest the black hole ahead of time.
I thought that's one of the reasons they saved it for last. Maybe I'm mistaken though.

"It's not possible...No, It's necessary..."
Great fricking line and delivery by McConaughey.

It’s not my favorite movie ever but it’s thisclose due to a dumb sappy ending.
With your comment of not the last 10 minutes, but the 20 minutes before that, I am assuming you meant the tesseract?
To be honest, I didn't mind the ending.
You are looking at a guy who just lost everything, with the chances to not being teased in front of him, just out of grasp. You would expect overdone emotion there.
The only part of Interstellar that really grinds me is they are having a serious, Hollywood-technical discussion, and Hathaway drops the line with a straight face of "love is the one thing that we're capable of perceiving, that transcends dimensions of time and space"
Its just so far out of left field in a movie that took great pains to stay as scientifically grounded as possible. Scientific papers have been written about the models they used (and made for the film) depicting a black hole's gravitational lensing.

The score is so hypnotizing I've always wondered what the movie would even be without it. It would still be incredible visually but I think the acting would have been silly without that music setting the mood into some kind of haunting poignancy

Yes. The short goodbye to his daughter and taking off to find Dr. Brand was fine.

His emotion was fine. I just don’t like that he was the one sending the messages. Don’t care for it as an ex Machina.

That was indeed stupid but a small thing to me of a person in love thinking with emotion, not logic. Going to Mann’s planet was the right call.

When I saw in theaters I had no idea Damon was in it so I was like wow awesome Matt Damon how did I not know he was in this?
And then as you slowly come to realize he’s a POS I thought it was perfect. You think oh wow big star he’s going to save the day-just like the characters in the movie.
Also Matt Damon has that one little quality about him that makes you think while he seems like a nice guy most of the way through there’s a hint of smarminess that he could be a POS especially when the chips are down.
Yep. I’ll repost my similar take on Mann/Damon and the climax of this film every time this comes up:
quote:
I’ve said it before on here and I feel like Nolan absolutely nailed it with casting Damon because I'm looking at it from the perspective from the back-end of the mission, so to speak, if that makes sense. I wasn't at all expecting Damon to emerge from that sleep chamber, and immediately I felt myself liking Dr. Mann even more BECAUSE he was Matt Damon (not to mention all of the other praises of Dr. Mann throughout the film), who is so recognizable and admirable in most of the roles he plays (say what you will regarding his activism and such, he’s had some admirable roles). Again... This Mann character was built up in the film as this great pioneer. And if it was a different, less regarded actor emerging from the sleep chamber, I would have probably been totally indifferent to Mann.
Back to the plot... then, all of a sudden he unexpectedly pushes Cooper off the cliff and everything came crashing down on me, leading to the climax of the film. It was truly a wave of emotion when I saw that entire sequence of events unfold.
Let’s Discuss Interstellar

It wasn’t a deus ex machina. It was woven into the time loop.

Whenever I’m trying to explain to somebody what Deus Ex Machina, the ending of Interstellar is precisely what I point them to.

Finally able to watch start to finish no interruptions. Unbelievable movie, easily in my top 3 all time and unquestionably my favorite sci Fi and Nolan flick.
The score, the father/daughter relationship, cinematography.... Perfect. Anyone complaining about plot holes is crazy. Just sit back and enjoy.
Apparently it's shown randomly at theaters throughout the year, I'll for sure catch it on the big screen.

The family not saying anything to him irks me everytime. How long did the one guy live on that planet before he died?

I got to see it in IMAX and it was one of my favorite moviegoing experiences ever. I had already seen it in regular so I wasn’t trying to put the plot together as I went and that actually made it more enjoyable
I need to see if it’s playing near me and take my kids. They’ve seen it on a 60 inch screen but that just doesn’t do it justice.

Doesn't bother me at all, this is nitpicking

This planet was farthest from gargantua, so there might not have been much, if any, time deviation. Meaning that he was likely there 30 years or so prior to brand showing up.
However, if that's the case, when coop makes it back to brand, they should be vastly different ages (brand should be older because coop lost decades while in gargantua).
This is a legitimate complaint.
