Since Tiger King has been such a hit, I figured I would list a few of my favorite quirky documentaries.

Vernon Florida.
Errol Morris

quote:

focused on residents of the Southern town who cut off their own limbs as a way to collect insurance money.

Grizzly Man
Werner Herzog

quote:

It chronicles the life and death of grizzly bear enthusiast Timothy Treadwell. The film includes some of Treadwell's own footage of his interactions with grizzly bears before 2003, and of interviews with people who knew, or were involved with Treadwell, as well as professionals dealing with wild bears.

Shut Up Little Man
Matthew Bate

quote:

Friends accidentally create the world's first viral video when they record fighting neighbors.

LINK !

The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia
Julien Nitzberg

quote:

The film follows the White family over the course of a year in their daily life through first-person interviews.

LINK

Winnebago Man
Ben Steinbauer

quote:

The film follows the Internet phenomenon created by a series of twenty-year-old outtakes from a Winnebago sales video featuring profane outbursts from the salesperson, Jack Rebney. Originally intended as an inside joke, the video spread across the globe first on VHS then via YouTube and other online video sites, earning the salesman the title of "The Angriest Man in the World". The documentary explores the story of the clips' origins and how, two decades later, it affects the reluctant star.

Feel free to add interesting, quirky documentaries that you’ve found.

Hated Grizzly Man because the guy was a first class a-hole who killed his girlfriend and Herzog covered up the fact that he basically killed his girlfriend by being a world class moron and Herzog said he tried to save his girlfriend from the bear attack when in reality, he cried for her help and she tried to save him.

Tangent over.

NYC is on Prime. Great doc. Ric Burns steps out of brothers shadow.

You learn why the capital of the world is being hardest hit with Corona...man, those people used to live like dogs. Slums, horrible factory jobs. They would lock you in so you couldn't leave...12-hour days. Sewage in the streets. And those were the good times at the start of the Century.

Pretty much anything by Errol Morris.
Thin Blue Line is a masterpiece.

Then there’s Fast, Cheap and Out of Control

The Fog of War (about McNamara and VietNam)

Yeah, I normally don't cheer for people to be eaten by Bears.

But I spent the entire doc, waiting and hoping and praying that this frickin' clown would eventually get eaten by Bears.

So in that sense, the documentary was very satisfying in the end.

First time I've ever hoped that another human being would get eaten by an animal.

The Fog of War is one of the finest, most intense and compelling documentaries I've eve seen.

The NYC doc by Ric Burns is also, I think, just as good as anything Ken has ever done. I think it's like 14 hours or something. The really days on New York are fascinating.

He didn't kidnap her. She was as stupid as he.

So that's where this came from.

Darth Vader Winnebago Salesman.

This is a pretty terrible description of the film..
As a matter of fact I don't even remember that subject discussed, but it's been a while

My vote for a list addition is American Movie

Does anyone remember the name of the documentary years ago about the tiger trainer, his wife, and his boyfriend. I think I remember that all of them got eaten by a tiger by the end. It was really good. I just can’t remember the name.

It was a viral audio cassette. Before the internet there was an underground chain of amateur comedy and found audio cassettes where people would swap.

If you’re a fan of the Mission Hill series from Adult Swim and the WB, Gus and Wally are based on the screaming roommates from Shut Up Little Man.

Cat Dancers. Took Me some time but I found it. Made back in 2007. Another good story about these idiots who think they are at 1 with a wild animal.
