Not enough screen time for the actual Basterds IMO. Could have used a few more scenes of them kicking arse. Also more Bear Jew.
The story line with Shoshanna had to be told...tough to do that with the Basterds. And, the Basterds were in a lot of the movie. Chapter 2, the Bear Jew scene (I agree, more Bear Jew), the tavern scene, the theater scene...they were there.

That's one of the scenes I was talking about. I was bored during that whole act. I understood it's importance to the rest of the movie, I just not riveted at all.
Wow, really? That was a fantastic scene...high tension. Her reaction afterwards is perfection.

This. I remember lots of talk after IB came out from people who were disappointed with it because there wasn't enough violence and basterd screen time. And I remember saying that the majority of America (in a movie-watching sense) is stupid and only wants mindless violence/action, when that was never the intent of this movie. I'm all about mindless action with a movie like Transformers, but IB wasn't about that at all...it was about tone-setting and tension. I think a lot of people went into it expecting Kill Bill-like voilence, and were disappointed when they didn't get that.

I honestly had no idea what to expect because I'm not much of a refined moviegoer who knows stuff about stuff, but once I watched it I was really excited to watch it again. There's just so much greatness to be had.

If would have watched this movie in the theater i would have emabrassed myself because i would have been standing on my haunches in my chair due to how much tension are in some of those scenes. On top of that, you keep asking yourself "How are they going to screw up and not kill Hitler" and then Tarantino busts in and says "frick HISTORY, MOTHER frickERS." Awesome.

And the opening scene is a big reason why there should be an Oscar for Best Scene each year.

The opening scene is one of the best in movie history to me.

I loved that. In fact, people in the audience in the theater I was in started laughing like I was. It was awesome.

Like I said, revenge porn.

Agreed on the first part, but I thought the interrogation scene at the end with Hans, Aldo and Ryan from The Office was also pretty awesome. The theater burning and Hitler getting MP40'd in the dome was great. Also, the scene where the chick is having brunch with Hans and he offers her creme is really great.

There's so much to this movie that is just outstanding.

I agree with the farmhouse, the bar, the interrogation, and the creme. 3 or 4 OUTSTANDING, INCREDIBLE scenes.... but the scenes just didn't feel connected to me for some reason.

I don't know how to explain it. Some of the best cinematic scenes ever, all of which except one have Christoper Waltz, but even so... the entire movie just felt ... incomplete?

shite I love IB. Classic Tarantino. If the rest of the movie was absolute shite I would have been glad to pay the 10 bucks to see the opening scene and the theater scene.

In my opinion, the only "low point" of the movie is the scene where Mike Meyers' char is explaining Operation Kino to Michael Fassbender's char. That's a necessary set-up to the bar scene tho.
In fact, I need to retract comments I've made about how I thought the bar scene should have been trimmed of a lot of unnecessary dialogue and filler (namely the card game). I first watched the movie with my now ex, and (as one can imagine) I wasn't giving it my full attention. I've since watched IB several times, and it has become one of my favorite films.

i dunno the whole german actor/war hero thing is pretty annoying. like the banter outside the theater when she's changing the marquee.

If I could find it, I would bump the "Obscure Movie Moments" thread and add that one of my favorites is the look on Shoshanna's face whenever she is at the table with Goebbles and co and they are bickering back and forth in German about the theater. She has no idea what they are saying and she would rather be anywhere in the world. It's just funny to me.

i was interested the whole way through, much more tense situations then pulp fiction.

but whatever you do, do NOT get this movie on blu-ray. looks like total crap
