only to have Thanos take that moment and spit and shite it right back at them and kill Vision and Wanda himself
Agree it was a great moment.
I actually thought Thanos was going to just kill Wanda outright the moment he got the stone from Vision.
She had just showed she was powerful enough to destroy a stone, so it would seem he wouldn’t want someone out there like that, even though at that point it probably wouldn’t matter to him because he was all powerful.
But I honestly would have preferred that he just turn around and just snap her in half like a twig and toss her body next to Vision’s rather than her being one of the half turned to ash. Would have made that moment even more brutal imo.
At first I thought well obviously she needs to be alive because she will play a big part in ultimately defeating him in Part 2. But then when she dies randomly anyway I just think Thanos wouldn’t have risked leaving her alive after seeing how powerful she was.
And speaking of her, man that early fight scene where she and Vision are ambushed was so fricking badass too. Just an incredible action scene with so much emotion as well. Sucked that Vision got put out of commission right off the bat because I would have loved to see him frick those guys up and have a shot to go toe to toe with Thanos.

Ha- maybe that was Gamora's plan all along (in the movies):
maybe the Soul Stone enhances... your soul.
Thanos was a dick before this movie. Pretty smug when he took down Hulk and laid waste to the rest of the Asgardians. A gloating a-hole when he grabbed Gamora, and tortured Nebula.
Then, he got the Soul Stone.... and he was gracious to Stark. Altruistic when he comforted Wanda.
Maybe Gamora beat him, by letting him take the Soul Stone. You sacrifice to get it, and in return... you regret all the wrongs you're doing???
I like it!
Red Skull did say the stone comes with a terrible price that most cannot handle or something like that.
You think it just means you have to kill the thing you love but I bet it has a deeper meaning for sure. Good theory

my biggest issue with the premise was the belief that if they could stop Thanos from getting one of the six stones everything would be OK. uh, he's still the most powerful being we've ever met who handled the hulk without using a stone, adn he controls 83% of existence (including time, power, and reality). he could still do his dirt, it would just take a bit longer
No question he could.
But I don’t think they believed everything would be ok. Just that it was all they could do and you take whatever win you can.
As long as he didn’t have all of them, they at least had a shot.
I mean, Tony, Strange, Spidey, and the Guardians came damn close to beating him. Add in Thor, Hulk, Cap, Vision, Wanda, and BP and maybe they really could stop him. Just needed time and opportunity to get all of them together at the same time and place.
You just have to extend the game so to speak.

It's amazing how the Banner character has gone from a Jason Bourne level fugitive able to evade SHIELD and the government in Incredible Hulk and Avengers to the bumbling comic relief that we have in Infinity War.
And the bumbling idiot characterization is even more bothersome because of how firmly they established him as a top of the world level genius; the guy Tony Stark turns to when something is beyond even him.
I was able to ignore behind plausible deniability when they make the white guy government official a bit of a dunce for favor of the Wakandan’s......because he was always a dunce, hinted as such as early as his introduction in Civil War.
The two jokes in Wakanda in rapid succession were jarring to me because they were against the characterization of the victim.
It wouldn’t have been a problem for me if it were Pratt’s or Rudd’s characters.
It makes me curious to know who was the one who insisted that jabs and embarrassment must take place when the Avengers meet the Wakandans. Especially the bow element.
And on a related note, when did she became a super genius on constructing artificial life powered by crystal anyway? Not like even standard automation seemed common there like Tony’s equipment.

Nope.
But it was clear he was pretty fricked up.
He definitely would have had to abandon the quest.
And Thor would have been free to persue.

Yup. They've done Hulk a huge disservice, and I do wonder why. Granted, the movie didn't have much room for him, but they've gone pretty far from the character.
And that sucks because the Hulk is super interesting.

I took Bruce acting like that because he can't turn into hulk and that's his defensive mechanism. He's embarrassed and ashamed he can't help his friends when they need him the most

I can see that.
I guess with the Guardians, Tony, and Spidey all in the other storyline, they needed someone in the Wakanda group to provide that comic relief that Marvel does so well.
Not that I agree with the extent they took it to, but it at least wasn’t completely out of the blue. Banner had already taken that turn in Ragnorak.
Hell even Hulk was turned into comic relief there. He was like a pouty sarcastic teenager, almost like the Groot character in this one. And that carries over with the petulant “NO” every time Banner tries to Hulk out.
I don’t mind the comic relief so much. Even Thor has become more of a wise cracking jokester than he was originally. That’s just kind of Marvel’s thing now.
But yeah, making Banner seem sort of bumbling and clueless was the more annoying thing to me.
Not nearly enough to come close to ruining this for me, but definitely a valid complaint that I can see would bother some others

Lots of holes in the Black Panther character and Wakanda in general.
1. How is he uber rich if they never deal with the outside world?
2. How are they so tech forward just from being around vibranium?
Either way, thats how it is in the comics, Wakanda is where villains go to die.

I think this is the key. Similar to Vision, they had to put him out of commission early because if Hulk, Thor, and Vision were all there at 100%, they probably stop him.
They probably will play big roles in the defeat in Part 2, so I expect we will see him redeemed. That is why I’m not too upset by it. We’re only at halftime. Hulk will Hulk out hard core in the conclusion
ETA: Agreed pvilleguru

That’s a really good point too. Especially with the stakes so high, his feeling impotent to help just has him totally off his game.
It gives the character at least some motivation for the things we see him do that we don’t recognize as true to his nature.
Like we’ve said, they needed a reason to have a game changer out so that Thanos can get his win. This seems as decent a reason as any.
I expect Hulk smashing shite in the end

How do you guys feel narratively about how easily Thanos beat the Hulk with just the Power Stone?
Not exactly the show of “angrier he gets, the stronger he becomes”

You kind of have to just go with #2, but it answers #1.
The idea is that vibranium is useful in a variety of situations that made life easier, simpiflied things, created unique sources of power, etc. So they can efficiently use other resources, and aren't dragged down by the needs of the outside world.

You could see Hulks face when Thanos grabbed his wrists and just stretched his arms out that he wasnt expecting that kind of power from Thanos. Then Thanos hit him in the throat and went on to just systematically break Hulk down with precise punches and knees before slamming him onto the ground thus knocking him cold.

Yeah that is definitely something that doesn’t add up. But I guess the stone is the very essence of strength so no matter how “angry” Hulk gets he could never overcome it? Kind of a dichotomy for sure but I can see giving the stone the win in what amounts to a pure battle of strength. It just kind of has to. It IS strength.
Plus, we saw at least signs that there are limits to Hulk in Ragnorak in the fight with Thor. And even that was without his hammer. Thanos with the stone has to be on a different level.
One of my bigger issues was Thor standing in a star. Not sure that lines up with what his powers should be but I liked the scene overall. Could have maybe done without it though. Just restarting the rings would have been a badass enough of a show of force imo.

Im not sure how I feel about the Stormbreaker angle. In Ragnorak with Odin asking "Are you Thor, God of hammers?" then going on to tell his son that it's not the hammer, it's you. You're stronger than I am ect. Then here we are in the next movie, first sign of trouble comes up and Thor runs across the galaxy to get another weapon.
That said, I could watch Thor, Rocket/Rabbit and Groot/Tree all day
You speak Groot?
They teach it on Asgard, it's an elective.

If you take Ragnorok into account, Banner had just spent a few years as Hulk so it would make sense his mind is still a little scrambled. Then as Hulk he had spent those years beating the shite out of all comers and was adored as the grand champion.
Getting smacked by Thanos so easily shocked the hell out of him. Being sent back to earth where he felt so hated he left the planet broke his ego.
They probably could have thrown in a line where he and Nat reunite that her affection for him wasn't real love but just an attempt to control Hulk's rage. That might have made his impotence more easily acceptable. Hell, maybe they did and it got cut for time. Plus it could have opened the door for him to ride off into the sunset w/a Liv Tyler cameo in part 2.
