for someone so particular and authentic i'd figure you'd atleast spell their name right..

and just because he played football before doesn't mean he wasn't still in need of some serious football structure. you say only 9th grade.. did he not play as sophomore any where? if that's the case the movie seems authentic enough to me.. they also bring in the ncaa investigating them..

if you didn't notice, i'm from memphis, and his high school played in the same division as us. we beat them, so don't say it's sour grapes or something along those lines. i can assure you, it was no secret he was a good football player, and briarcrest is a private school who can recruit. they wanted oher on their team, and that family was their way to make it happen. my high school recruited kids from the inner city as well, but we didn't try to make it looks like a made for disney movie like the tuohy (happy?) family did. spare me

That movie would be 100x better if it wasn't "based on a true story."

ALRIGHT ALREADY. Go see the movie. DON'T go see the movie. Give it up, for Pete's sake. We got bigger things to rant and worry about - like who our quarterback is. And speaking of QBs, what happened to Garrett? He's fallen off Les' radar completely?

it's actually based on a non-fiction book that is an account of those few years of mike oher's life

It's a movie for goodness sake. Do you think it really happened the way it did in the movie Titanic? Get a grip. Go to the movie, or don't go, like it or don't like it. Who do you think cares. They made a lot of money, and a lot of us enjoyed the movie, but we took it for what it was, a story and not the Bible. I don't know what really happened in this young man's life, but the movie did go according to the book more than I thought it would. Of course they did things a little differently in the movie to make it more Hollywood, but they all do that, I don't think "the Sound of Music" happened exactly the way it was presented in the movie, but I love the movie, and I don't pick it a part.

This. The movie did embelish the part about Oher being completely clueless about football when he arrived at Briarcrest. Otherwise, the story is pretty much as it is portrayed in the book.

It was not a documentary. It was a movie.

"The Blind Side"

I enjoyed it and thought Sandra Bullock looked hot as hell in the movie:

Plus I liked when Houston Nutt came to recruit. They didn't have to worry with writing his lines. After living in Arkansas for 15 years, there's no telling how many times I've heard, "There's all kinds of Tigers and Lions but there is only one Razorback."

I also enjoyed the kid scoffing at the idea of wearing a hog hat.

I read the book a couple of years ago but have no interest in seeing the movie. I really enjoyed the book, but I'll pass on any movie in which Sandra Bullock is starring. For some reason, she has always annoyed the hell out of me. In addition, I have no interest in seeing NS try to act. It was painful to watch his ESPN Gameday commercial from last season.

Didn't oher say that the movie didn't portray his story correctly? If I'm not mistaken, I think he hated it

Yea as alluded to earlier Tennyson died in the late 1800s. Definitely didn't write a poem about LSU or Ole Miss football.

I think this a chicken vs. egg thing dude.

I read the book as well. Based on what I saw in previews, I don't have much desire to see the movie because I think they deviated further than they needed to.

My question was for the guy breaking the story about how nothing in the movie OR book was true.

OR being that this is a movie discussion board, you can carry your arse to the rant...

Yeah, Briarcrest's football coach begged teh headmaster to admit Oher. Over a year later, during his junior season, Oher was still living with several different families and teammates, including the Tuohys. He was also named 1st team all-state, player of the year in his district, and called "the next great left tackle" by Lemmings before the Tuohys took him in on a permanent basis. After they took him in, they paid for private tutors and a ton of BYU online courses to get him eligible, allowing him to replace years of failed courses with just hours of work. After getting all that from the Tuohys, Oher wasn't going anywhere other than Ole Miss.

As a movie fan the embellishments and misrepresentations don't matter, but as a college football fan, they do. There have been plenty of blue chip recruits that did not qualify for other shools and NCAA rules prohibit boosters from giving them help.

Yeah, Oher's life was turned around, but what about all those other recruits that didn't make it into college? What about their stories? If the NCAA allowed what the Tuohys did for Oher than the NCAA should just do away with any rules regarding recruiting.

Oh, and Oher's coach at Briarcrest was coincidentally hired by Ole Miss afte Oher signed.
