I don't think you are allowed to acknowledge anything you put forth as a fact, considering everything you are saying is nonsense.

Main reason I never watched Seinfeld was because of George. I HATE that guy. He does nothing but whine and complain and is so awkward, it was hard to watch.
But Bayou Samtard just said that no one ever says that. I'm confused.

i mean the characters on IASIF are legit pieces of shite that i'd never interact with in 100 years.
You are missing the point of art if this is really a question you ask yourself while watching a movie, tv show, a play, reading a book, etc.
The sympathy between a viewer and a character is not like sympathy between real life people. This is a basic feature of the aesthetic experience. It's the same reason why things unbearable to experience in life are pleasurable to watch on screen.

It is funny. And lots of other people think it's funny.
girls is the babel of contemporary dramedies
people like it because they're supposed to like it, and justify it in all sorts of outlandish ways (like you calling it a comedy)
the main problem with the comedy in girls breaks down in 2 ways
1. when they set up a joke, it's obvious. when you remove the element of surprise, comedy dies
2. they've already run the course of "awkward" moments. they've blown their load, like with dunham trying to make a statement by having her fat and ugly self get naked so often. they've run these into the ground and it's not funny anymore

I would guess that same sort who don't like Woody Allen don't like Girls.
maybe new, shitty woody allen
i like old woody allen, but he begat seinfeld/curb, and the same distinctions apply with girls

Obviously you are angry about something. Maybe you should be more thoughtful in general.

bull fricking shite
we are supposed to root for protagonists in the same way that we root for friends. that's basic structure

Only fools who don't understand something resort to this kind of argument.
Just say you don't like the show for whatever reason. But this fake attempt at justifying your dislike for the show by some objective standard is just embarrassing.

fricking wow.
Can you explain my biases to me now. You mentioned them, but never said what they were.

When people watch Seinfield, do they say, "omg I hate George. I simply can't stand him." No, they say "I love x, y, z character". Yes, they know they are "bad" (and they aren't really that bad--part of the point of the show is that their narcissism is pretty pedestrian), but they like them anyway. I'm sorry you don't understand this basic fact.
Part of that is the Comedy/Drama distinction. If Girls were truly a comedy, we wouldn't be asked to feel sorry for these atrocious people, and we clearly are. They'd just go about being awful but funny and the world would keep turning. It wouldn't matter why they're so shitty.
In a comedy there is a difference between sympathizing with a character, and liking the character (liking the comedy they bring to the table really).
Girls at least on some level wants us to feel bad for the plight of these private liberal arts school educated, oblivious, shitheads.

if you haven't ever traveled to the poli board, Bayou Sam is our resident archetypal intellectual
i have never figured out if he's just a really good troll job or is that bought into the hive mind
i knew that if he had cable, he'd love girls...and i knew he wouldn't be able to explain why. people who matter say you're supposed to like girls, so he will like girls. and those who disagree with him are simpletons. i've been waiting/hoping for him to show up in the girls discussions
this thread makes me think he is, in fact, a troll job

I was wondering when you would get around to finally explaining my own feelings to me. I asked you to do that a half hour ago.

TWO episodes this season were about this very concept
the episode where night hawk fell in love with hannah, and then the episode where jessa goes home
if these weren't attempts at sympathy (and it would be insane to argue against it), then this season has lost like 1/4 of its season on episodes that did nothing. they weren't funny, and they did nothing to further the plot

Very rarely. And if I post in a thread there, it's usually to make a shitty joke and never return to that thread.

you see i DO understand it. the only reason why i waste my 30 minutes a week watching this show is to call people out on claiming they like it (fwiw, it isn't the reason i watched babel, but i started doing this post-babel after people tried to defend it)

again, why do you like the show? please give a detailed, justified response

SFP is basically a guy who was always surrounded by slightly dumber people than himself, so he grew the habit of thinking that he really was much smarter than he is, and that any of his insights are worth heeding.
So instead of surrounding himself with smarter people and trying to make himself better, he practices his bizarre theorizing on a message board. He is sort of the internet equivalent of a village square philosopher.

I don't buy it and thought this was the worst episode of the show yet, but its defenders claim this is one of Hannah's essays or something and never really happened.

You neither understand the show nor the link in the OP.
You, like your wing-man Project P whatever, don't even understand who the link is satirizing.

yes a gifted HS program that graduated at least 10 kids with 30+ on the ACT, honors college, and law school had me surrounded by complete morons my entire life.

Yeah I thought that was a curious episode. Basically the point was that despite all of hannah's hipsterish shite, she really wants to be the star of a rom com like most girls. But it was only funny in a few scenes.
