I remember when it came out and there were some serious clashes between racist blacks and racist whites for a couple of weeks. Not just in the south by any means either. I remember a damn near riot in Chicago and another in Minnesota of all places.

The movie ignited a firestorm for a little while.

KKK started holding rallies down here again and it was yanked off of drive in screens and downtown niche theaters as fast as they tried to show it.

Rough movie to swallow back in the day.

Probably still wouldn’t be well received today honestly.

The composer, Maurice Jarre, is most famous for David Lean's film scores, most notably Lawrence of Arabia.

The other music in the film are Muddy Waters' songs.
