you realize all the women i named HAVE PLAYED astronauts?

Along with I guess, Farrah Faucet, Carrie Anne-moss, along with at least another dozen actresses.

Swank, Bullock did fair jobs, and Foster is a slightly better actress,, no where near killing Ronnie Reagan over though..

BUT, at least 2001 has a "villain", i.e. the HAL computer. There's no "classic villain" in the film Interstellar.

yea I can see why that would bother a "critic" or average movie going public, (sheeple), they like formulaic , it is a known quantity,, it's comfortable.

The HAL 9000 "malfunction" was actually a pretty small segment of that movie, and in the grand scheme, not really that important, but yea, it was memorable.

On a scale of 0-100 how much above 100 would you rate it?

Right now I can think of three motion pictures that should rate above 100.

Comedy/Drama: Charles Chaplin's "The Kid" (1922)

Horror: The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari (1920)

Comedy/Pathos: Charles Chaplin's "City Lights" (1931)

The major critics are starting to weigh in.

Ebert -

quote:

And yet "Interstellar" is still an impressive, at times astonishing work, and one of a handful by Nolan that overwhelmed me to the point where my usual objections to his work melted away. - LINK ]LINK

Fox News -

quote:

While “Interstellar” might be slightly predictable and suffer from some head-scratching silly flaws, it is nearly impossible to look away. That is the strength of Nolan’s story and McConaughey’s bristling performance. A masterpiece? No. But in time, “Interstellar” could prove to be a contemporary science fiction classic. - LINK ]LINK

Associated Press -

quote:

In "Interstellar," he slips into its very fabric, shaping its flows and exploding its particles. It's an absurd endeavor. And it's one of the most sublime movies of the decade. - LINK ]LINK

I didn't think much of Bullock in Gravity but the main problem was the writing,, she got a part that didn't fit her well, ie an "astronaut/computer engineer" and didn't have any real lines that made you think of either of them. Bad script is hard to overcome, and that writer new less than jacksh*t about engineering.

Swank made a passable "pilot/astronaut" she's not a terrible actress, I don't remember Moss in Red Planet, just that she was in it.

and then there's hippy dippy Foster.. "Ok to go.. Ok to go... ok to go..."

This a quote from a friend on Facebook who is in the Air Force and saw a early screening.

"If there is only one movie you see for the rest of your life, you need to see Interstellar. I am Speechless".

Has any Nolan movie (excluding batman) ever had a villain? Memento didn't and Inception didn't. The Prestige sort of but your allegiances shift throughout the movie. I know he directed those but I'm not sure what other movies he's written.

Insomnia. That was a remake though.

I will leave this final information from the film that proves that I saw it already.

Matt Damon's character has good cry. It's such a big outburst of waterworks that he needs his crying head cradled in the arms of another man for comfort.

Tell your girlfriend that this is not a "common variety sci-fi flick".

You will have a chance to take her to the film because you will want to see it more than once.

Based on what you have shared about your interests, my guess is that you will want to see Interstellar more than once.

I'm glad to see that some additional recommendations are coming in to see this film.
