This movie got panned so hard. But it has a great cast and is just a Japanese fantasy with Keanu Reeve and every major Japanese star that can speak fluent English. What's to hate?

Watch the old Japanese version, a far better movie than the junk of the Keanu Reeves movie.

The 47 Ronin 1941

This is a pre WWII movie, in part made by the Japanese government.

Rated 7.3 range

Forty Seven Ronin 1954

This is the best version of the story.

Rated 9.0, really closer to a 10 movie.

There are many other movies of the story including a Japanese version in color from around 1958, near every one of these movies are far better than Reeves version.

Did it make it to Netflix or something. Another 47 Ronin thread was bumped earlier in the week.

Jesus Christ, will you shut the frick up.

"Well, acksually the 1958 version was better..."

That wasn't the meaning of this thread, you fricking idiot.

THEY ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FILMS!

It's people like you that caused a fun, fantastical film with witches, monsters and samurai to get panned because it wasn't "lore accurate".

Movies can't be fun anymore without some a-hole walking in to wax poetic about the beauty of gray scale and painted sets.I love those old films too!

But despite what the failed writers and directors that teach film appreciation at the local community college tell you, MOVIES ARE SUPPOSED TO BE FUN! They aren't high art -- though some can be impactful. They are one degree of separation from a deoderant commercial. They are designed to titillate, shock, arouse, frighten, horrify, and maybe inspire.

So let me enjoy my monster filled samurai popcorn flick without popping in to say how the film from 70 frickING YEARS AGO was better.

Haven't seen this movie in a while and will put it on tonight.

I watched "Last Knights" with Clive Owen recently which is a completely different style of movie but has similar plot points with the ronin.

I liked it, but damn, that ending hit hard, and can see why it got panned by the critics

You missed the point of history totally?

This is a real event that happened around 1703, there is no western person in that event.

If you want a fantasy rename the movie and not live off the pasted movies and real history.

Hollywood gets very lazy and does remakes of many foreign movies and events and charges the leads to western characters, but to take a historical event and change it to a western character. This movie is not like Gandhi, they did try to change Ben Kingsley to make him look like Gandhi. The bad with Gandhi is they white washed his real charcter.
