I don't know how much of a bitch she was exactly. She was an actress being asked to pretend to be romantically attracted to someone she wasn't for years, 24/7. It's honestly amazing she didn't have a complete and total emotional breakdown prior to when it finally happens.

That's one way of looking at it. Another would be that she got paid to pretend to be the girlfriend and then wife of a guy obviously sleeping with him for years. Less like an actress, and more like a whore you ask me...
Throw on top the fact that she felt literally nothing for him the entire time, and knowingly was fricking with his mind when it was obvious he began to figure things out. Only an awful person would do any of that. It's what differentiated her from the woman that got kicked out of the world that he fell in love with.

I don't think they were actually having sex. There was a point about them not being able to get Truman to have kids - I think that was there short way of saying "they're not fricking" without having to literally come out and say aloud "they're not fricking."
