Damn, just flipped the channel and found it.

It don't take long to kill things, not like it takes to grow.

One of the very few Newman staples I've never seen.

I just know he was was supposed to kind of be an a-hole or something in the film, right?

I just hit that part in the last minute I had put it on pause and restarted it and swear to God a minute after I read your post that scene hit

In Texas movies it's like the Sam the Lion out on the lake scene in last picure show

It's a pretty good impression of a drunk Texas good ol' boy. Owlvis once accused me of being like Hud. Based on a Larry McMurtry character, and his characterizations of good ol' boys are not always entirely charitable.

yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I've never been sure what my favorite Sam the Lion quote is, but probably this one hits the hardest:

quote:

If she was here I'd probably be just as crazy now as I was then in about 5 minutes. Ain't that ridiculous?... Naw, it ain't really. 'Cause being crazy about a woman like her is always the right thing to do. Being an old decrepit bag of bones, that's what's ridiculous. Gettin' old.

I see a lot of people I know in McMurtry and Linklater films

those folks are resilient

The way the sun and the clouds just did their thing at the perfect moment

Yeah, that scene just sticks with me, reminds me of so many of the uncles in my family, and just the stories, the things they thought were important to teach me, they would tell stories and test your manhood by buying you a Dr. Pepper make you promise not to tell grandma

we were reckless with shotguns and riding in the back of pickup trucks

Great movie. Great example too of an antihero in classic film, he's supposed to be the villain of the movie but Newman just played the part so damn well everyone liked the character.

Sunday is Henry Fonda Day on TCM.

If I was awake, and had nothing going on, I'd for sure, watch these:

A Big Hand for the Little Lady (1966)
Spencer’s Mountain (1963)
Mister Roberts (1955)
The Rounders (1965)

You’ve gotta have The Texas Chain Saw Massacre in there, likely the most Texas film ever made.
