I tend to watch and enjoy it for what I see without worrying about a book or previous movies. Don't get me wrong the woke movement ruined a lot.

I guess I just want to be entertained not watch to see what I can find wrong.

When you’re adapting something you have an obligation to maintain the spirit of whatever IP. Both to the original creator and the fans who established it. Some things will always need to be changed or re written or removed or changed places but maintaining the spirit of it is what is important. It takes actual talent to do this well though.

For example; I don’t like tuning in to a show called “The Witcher” based on books and games I love only to have it really be “Yennefer and the DEI sorceresses.” Yenn is hardly a character that much in the books they’re supposed to be a adapting for long periods and the witches are in lore all made young and beautiful so why are they all fat and ugly? And why does a Northern European fantasy setting look like modern LA? Get the picture?

It’s probably just Corinthians too ashamed to use his actual account attempting a rebrand at a confused but well meaning moderate chap.

lol you’re probably right, nobody hates canon and lore as much as Corinthians. This is an obvious troll thread, no need to feed him.

Btw are you going to watch Ring of Power? I’m hoping it’s so bad it’s funny like Acolyte, otherwise it’s going to be a very tough watch.

I hated War of the World’s with Tom Cruise. I loved the book and the movie was nothing like it. It was also over-acted.

I had read LOTR easily 30 times by the time Fellowship was released. Despite the divergences, I love those movies and the imagery from those films now fills my mind when I read the trilogy today.

Because the movies honored the author's vision. It did not seek to suppling it with the vision of the filmmaker.

I might check it out this weekend but I’m going to be playing Black Myth Wukong as well as UGA Clemson Saturday. I’m in no rush to watch this one like the acolyte for a few reasons. 1) it’s the second season and we know they’re talentless hacks already and 2) Amazon does occasionally at times put out good things on prime so I’m not as quick to grave dance on them.

Went head first into the Harry Potter films and didn't read a book (Audible) until years later, turned out so much better that way.

If you make significant changes from the source material, you have to make damn sure your final product AT LEAST is as good as the source material, if not better.

If I wrote a book and it was adapted, I wouldn’t care much if there were changes if it ended up a great show/movie. But if they make those changes and it ends up being dogshit, I’d be pissed.

I agree with this but I'd say it has to be at least 80% as good as the book.

There are a lot of good movie adaptations that still fall a little short of the books
