It depends on the genre. For instance, genres that depict gang/drug culture I really don't have much interest in the first place, I put on a short leash. Whereas I will give an epic fantasy like GoT or a Star Trek like science fiction a lot more leeway before cutting it loose.

Depends on the show and the type of show as well as who's in it. Normally, not very long, though.

I started taping the series, Secrets and Lies. I'm still watching only because I want to know "who done it". Otherwise, I find the show boring with very little new material each week. It's like the show moves in slow motion. I ff through a lot of it to try and glean any bit of new info. I'll be glad when it's over. Don't think I'll tape it next season because this has been like watching paint dry to see what the color is going to really look like.

I can tell instantly if I will like something.

If a show doesn't hook me in episode one then I'm probably not going to come back for any more episodes.

If I like episode one then I'm in until the show is over (most of the time)

3 episodes at most if I don't like it

If I make it past 3, I'm usually in for good, even if it turns bad.

It depends. I'll usually give a show two or three episodes if I'm trying to like it. Some shows I'll turn off after the opening.

Depends on the show.

If it's something new that I've been interested in since I saw the trailer, I'll probably give it half a season.

If it's older and I'm watching it not out of personal interest but instead based on reputation I can drop it in half an episode.

I would say that if you hit three dud episodes in a row, it is not going to get much better.

I recently watched all five seasons of The Wire. I started questioning my decision around episode 8 of season 1 . . . I should have stopped instead of investing anymore time. I know many on this board love that show and some call it the GOAT, but it never got any better for me.

I have a backlog of shows I want to watch. I usually give a new series two or three episodes. If a series doesn't grab me by then, there are enough other options that I can try something else.

Maybe there are shows that I would ultimately enjoy once I got to like season 3, but there is no reason to sit through hours of something I don't like in the hope that it will get better.
