How long do you give a show before you bail?

I've seen a few people say they watched 2 or 3 episodes of Daredevil or House of Cards and "couldn't get into it" and stopped watching.

These Netflix series are unique in that they are released in much the same way that a music album is released. I think they are meant to be taken as a whole. Now I know the commitment involved is much greater with a series that consists of 13 hour long episodes but man, I would at least get to the meat of the series before I bailed on it.

What's your opinion?

I watch until I decide I don't want to anymore. Are you telling me I need to suffer through a whole season of a Netflix show that I don't like?

Really varies depending on the show and its direction. I've bailed on a show after 3 episodes (revolution) but also bailed on a show after a full season and the new premiere (blacklist). I usually try to give a new show the benefit of the doubt but sometimes you just know when something will be terrible

I watched every episode of the River and Terra Nova. Not sure my opinion means much on this topic... Typically, if a show grabs me enough to want to watch (I don't watch many shows at all) I will at least give it a season. If it's laughingly bad, I will bail after 3-4 episodes.

I can usually tell after 3 episodes of a show is for me or not

I might give a show more than that if I really want to like it, but shows need to show me something after 3 episodes

I'm not telling you to do anything. I just shared an opinion and asked you for yours.

I watched the entire season of Daredevil and I hate myself for it. There was literally a scene in which Fisk (talking to his fiance) says "Listen closely to what I'm about to tell you..." CUT TO: Police running up flights of stairs for about 5 seconds. CUT BACK TO: "Did you get all of that?"

I mean are you even fricking trying?

It entirely depends.

I've bailed on some shows without even finishing the first episode.

I've also watched multiple seasons of shows (Homeland, Bates Motel) before eventually bailing out.

It depends how intriguing something is or how much I think I can judge. For example I don't think I watched even 1 episode of orange is the new black. I could just tell right away that it wasn't going to be my type of thing.

On the other hand I watched maybe 2 episodes of breaking bad and gave up on it back when it was new. I was wrong, and I eventually came back to it a few years later. I also just wasn't that into watching TV shows at the time though.

Usually 3 episodes. It takes a couple of episodes for a new show to catch it's flow, so to speak.

Honestly, I give it about 5 to 10 minutes. I have turned off many, many shows a few minutes into the pilot and never looked back.

Depends

I very rarely drop shows because I very rarely decide to watch something until I hear a ton of good things about it and it has a couple seasons that I can dive into

Network tv however, I can usually tell whether I will like or completely despise the show within like 10 minutes. And that because of how formulaic they are

You are trolling right? It's a pretty common thing movies and TV shows do. You find out what was said like 2 scenes later.

I try to do a full season if it's not just absolutely awful. There's been a couple shows I've watched in the past that had I quit early on I would've really missed out (Mad Men is a good example).

Depends. A new show, a couple/three episodes unless the pilot is especially horrible. Usually if it's a show I've been watching, I stick it out even if I know it's gone to crap (think Sons of Anarchy and Prison Break). However, if it's as boring and stupid as HoC season 3, I'll just stop watching after Ep 3
