I've watched 30 Rock before, so I get that reference! But sadly, my Star Wars knowledge is very weak.

Okay, fine. How'd Palatine know?

A rebel spy?

Sensing it?

A tortured rebel captive?

He read the headlines from a rebel press release stating "Luke Skywalker blows up death star?"

He's known since Padme died? He enjoyed torturing Vader. Maybe he knew his kids were alive and was just waiting to use them as leverage.

He sensed Luke when he started tapping into the force? Vader could force choke people accross a great distance just by thinking about them. Maybe Palpatine sensed Luke when he started using the force?

There's plenty of ways.

Lots of dumb in this thread.

I've been very honest about my lack of Stars Wars trivia knowledge. As previously stated, I've just watched the movies for the first time. I haven't watched them repeatedly in an attempt to ferret out every subtle nuance. I haven't read any of the "Canon" material or watched the cartoons.

In the grand scheme of things, if I have to be "dumb" about a particular subject, I'm relieved that my ignorance has manifested itself in something as trivial as a movie series targeted at children. But thanks anyway for trying to get my dumb arse up to speed.

Don’t worry about the shite talk, this board has a few really knowledgeable posters, both in canon and Legends material. I’ve been a huge fan since my childhood and sometimes I’ll get the two mixed up but I’ve tried to be as helpful as possible.

Side note, I’d avoid calling the light saber a sword. It’s almost universally frowned upon... unless your name is Rian Johnson.

Okay, I get it. I wasn't using the Force to intuit plot points. I'm used to movies that wrap things up nicely a couple of hours or so. Episodes I-VI are probably in the neighborhood of 12 hours long and I still don't know what frick is going on half the time, but
no worries.

I'll ocassionally see a movie that makes me want to read the book that it was based on. I'm not there yet with Star Wars, but that's okay. The movies were fun, Natalie Portman was hot, and now I can say I saw Star Wars. I'm good.

Her at the first Battle of Geonosis is the pinnacle of the female form. At least in my eyes.

Re: Light Saber vs Sword

It's funny you mention that. I was watching the Commentary on Revenge of the Sith last night. A couple of times George Lucas made comments about "sword" fightingg, like "This movie has more sword fighting than all the other movies combined." I immediately thought to myself, "Sword?!? That's a fricking light saber!"

When discussing Palpatine's incremental takeover of power from the Senate, Lucas mentions that he partially based it on Nixon trying to change the Constitution so he could run for a third term. Where did that shite come from? Nixon won reelection in a landslide, but the wheels were already coming off his administration internally in early 1973. He ran out before he got thrown out in 1974. I'm not sure when he was allegedly plotting for a 3rd term when it was apparent early in his 2nd term that the Watergate scandal wasn't going away. But I guess that's why George makes movies instead of teaching history.

Was that when she, Luke and Obi-Wan were chained to the columns in the arena? Yeah, she looked great then. But on the other hand, she's Natalie Portman, she always looks great. I thought she was really beautiful in II and III. I like her with curly hair.

You know a woman is good looking when she looks great dead and pregnant in a casket!

Her, Anakin, and Obi-Wan... yes that’s the scene. I have a weakness for curly hair so that really did it for me. She’s my all time favorite.

Great first response.

But on that note, were they all walking around with IDs in their pockets? Did Darth Vader have a wallet or did he check Luke's drivers license to verify what his last name was?

He knew that the only person that could have flown that well to blow up the death star like they did had to have practice shooting womp rats in their T-16 back home. Only explanation is that it was his offspring.

Not only did this not happen, but the first mention of this scenario culturally was in WATCHMEN, the graphic novel, which didn't come out until 1986.

Lucas was fricking high.

Fun Fact:

Marvel Comics does better Star Wars stories than Lucasfilms.

They have an advantage in medium sure, but it’s fun to bring that up when you tell Star Wars fans the MCU is better.
