You're forgetting Daemon and Laena's twins
Nah. They’re not direct heirs. Technically Laenor’s kids would be (the second child who does not become King, more specifically). But since he does not have blood heirs, the twins could be named.
But if they name one of the twins as heir, it’s openly agreeing that Laenor’s kids aren’t his and publicly declaring them illegitimate.
That’s what makes Laenor and Laena being gone so complicated.

The foreshadowing about the gold to Qarl was a bit of a misdirection because you assume Daemon is giving Qarl a reason to kill Laenor, but it's a really a means to escape together.
"That across the narrow sea there's a place where titles don't matter but only how much gold you have" is more about Laenor being able to lose his title in "death" yet the both of them don't have to live like paupers together than it is Qarl being a commoner knight in my view. Though it still works for him, as Qarl also doesn't have to give up nice things to be with Laenor with enough gold.
As noted, worked nicely for everyone involved except the poor fricking guard who got murdered to make it work

Lighting in this episode was pretty bad.

Yea, it doesn't seem complicated. Their heir is heir to the throne, making them strongly on the side of the Blacks and allowing them to name their youngest grandson the heir to Driftmark, which Corlys already stated in this episode

I bet that if they'd just asked him nicely he wouldve jumped into the fire for them

I just realized that the moment Rhaenarya realized she needed to marry Daemon is when Alicent was holding Aegon's dagger and the prophecy reflected in the light.
She realized the Prince that was Promised was not her bastard children.

I'm thinking "the bastards" end up forming the Wall with the Starks.
The new heir just got conceived on a sandy beach.

The wall has been there for thousands of years

Also looks like Viserys is on his death bed next episode.
They haven't highlighted his hand and arm injury in a decade or more and his facial skin has looked good. But I look at human hair (not the white braided horse and mop hair) and this episode, Viserys' hair was mostly gone. Like ten or twenty percent of what it was early on.

Laenor surviving was an unexpected twist that's not in the books. makes me wonder if they will continue to diverge from the books with the fates of the other main characters.

That hair is so awful

Idk why but this show just isn’t gripping me. There just isn’t one likable character. Daemon is the only one you seem to gravitate to, but that’s bc he’s an alpha. But there just isn’t any witty comic relief or any good characters like GOT.
It’s definitely not GOT. Anyone being honest can admit that. GOT simply had an infinitely larger universe in which to introduce a bevy of interesting characters.
It’s very well done, but it won’t approach what GOT was. Probably no show ever will.

The lack of world makes it easier to not have a Season 7/8 like GoT did, on the bright side

i don't get the hate for alicent. Rhaenyra is clearly just a whore who is power hungry and selfish. Alicent actually has class and a sense of responsibility.
i'm definitely team green from now on.

Great episode. I can’t stand Corlys and his family so I’m glad to see them being picked off. Pretty badass move by little Aemond to go and get the largest, oldest and deadliest dragon alive right after his aunts funeral to be his dragon. And then calling the two bastards exactly what they are to their faces. Then telling his mom to stop crying and that it was a fair trade to lose his eye. Kid is a fricking alpha
Yup, he definitely turned his fortunes around. It’s admirable at the very least. I’d say he’s bordering on being the only likable character in the show but he’s definitely got a sadistic side.
I think Viserys is the guy who wants everyone around him to get along and he frets about it constantly. He’s loyal to his daughter above all else, but he’s frankly just too big of a pussy to be King. He only holds ceremonial power at this point. No one respects him in the slightest.
Alicient is a bitch, but I’m frankly surprised that she seems to be the villain for most viewers. I know the show is definitely trying to paint the blacks as the good side, but what redeeming qualities do any of them have? Rhaenyra is far from the realm’s delight she was as a young woman. Daemon is a shite father, brother, murderer and above that he’s fricking his niece. Both of the women are doing what they think they have to do to protect their children. To me, neither side is the good or true side. I can’t find myself rooting for either side really. Although I do think that Aegon has the most legitimate claim to the throne being of age and the King’s eldest son.

but when Aegon called them bastards and said everyone knew it they showed Corlys looking a little flustered. and then he went straight to his wife and said she should press her claim right? or did he do that before the catfight?

Great episode. The princess doesn't look non-binary to me. She's kinda hot when she doesn't have her neuter costume on

maybe if you are just looking for action. HotD is top tier so far for me. it is like peak GOT because they have such a big budget already for season 1. the costumes, sets, and production has been top tier as well.
