I don’t have a problem with the character, it’s the terrible accent of the actress.

The accent is terrible. Its the only issue i had with the whole episode

Imagine if you didn’t read any books or watch the original GoT. After 2 episodes, I would give up.

That’s fair.
Should’ve cast my girl from Black Sails who played Max.

Just cranked it up. They want the king to marry a damn kid?

I’ll continue to watch. But no longer Sunday night viewing. Let it build for a few weeks and watch on a random Wednesday when nothing else is on. Y’all have fun!!
Eta…the lack of interest is obvious around here with such a small thread after E2 premier.

It’s the biggest new show in HBO history.
Pointing to the thread size is a pretty poor representation of this show’s impact.
That said, no other show currently gets 5 pages for one episode, so it’s doing pretty well here too
…another great episode by the way

Great setup episode. Otto Hightower is going to be such a scumbag in this show, the actor is doing a really good job.

The king made some really stupid decisions this week.
Refusing to deal with the shipping lanes issue, clearly that isn’t just going to fade away.
Sending the Hand to deal with his brother? How did he not see it coming what was about to happen? His brother has a dragon for fricks sake! Thank god Rhaenyra showed up or they were all dead.
Then choosing the Hightower girl, it was telegraphed to death so we all saw it coming but still so stupid. This marriage that is supposed to be completely political yet you isolate your strongest house, if you don’t want to marry the Velaryon child just don’t marry.
You know in the original books they always talked about Viserys with reveille. He seems like a pretty week ruler to me.

I love the dynamic between Daemon and Rhaenyra. He clearly cares about her still.

Good episode.
I think that the little boomerang kid from mad max will end up supporting her cousin.
It's only going to end up dragon vs. Dragon.
And they all have Dragons right?
Or is the black guy from that island that makes special weapons?

He is, in a sense.
A reminder the book was intentionally written as old historical texts were, which meant the authors were not neutral participants. The history they wrote was with bias and outside influence.
Same way you can’t automatically assume that Caesar, Sallus, or Tacitus were writing Roman history with an objective pen. That said, I don’t think some of the descriptions are as far off as you frame them

I'll quote the ASOIAF Wiki description of him (to avoid folks stumbling on spoilers):
quote:
Viserys was a peaceful man who hated conflict and was plump and pleasant. He was described as amiable, open-handed and eager to please. Though Viserys was never considered strong willed, he was not pliable or indecisive either, when he made a choice he was unwavering and firmly stood by his decision.[1]
King Viserys's generosity was legendary, and the Red Keep became a place of song and splendor during his reign. He hosted countless balls, feasts and tournaments, and he lavished gold and offices and honors among those he favored. Viserys was well loved by lords and smallfolk alike.
Viserys I ASOIAF Wiki Page (MAJOR MAJOR Spoilers, don't click if you don't want that info)
I think that fits him pretty well even in this snippet of his reign. You also have to remember that he is just one generation removed from Maegor the Cruel, who more than gave Joffrey a run for his money.

That description definitely fits the version we are getting on screen. I guess my recollection of him being mentioned in the books was more of a bad arse, but maybe I’m just projecting what I wanted and the general idea many book characters had that all the Targaryen’s were either badass warriors or completely insane depending which side of history your family was on.

Why are you even watching? Stop bitching about something you know nothing about and maybe watch GOT on HBO, or HBOMAX.

King Viserys really fricked up choosing companionship over political strategy.
Like Jessica, he chose love over the requirements of the realm
