Kind of the great thing about this whole book/series. You can view the same character from two different angles and see a villian or a hero. There is loyalty to you're house, you're allies, and the throne. Sometimes those loyalties pit the character against those he would otherwise be aligned with.
And that's also the point I'm getting at a bit.
In both the book and show, Jamie early on is being painted to the audience pretty much only by his enemies or people that don't like him or his family. TBC Jamie isn't a great guy, but he's painted as a caricature of a terrible human being, and what little you see of him would back that up.
Heck, Fire and Blood is basically that framed as a history book. Where the content is being written by biased individuals and so they shade things a certain way.

Was that the same dagger used to try and kill Bran Stark in season 1 of GOT?
Confirmed.

Unfortunately D&D chose to end him on this note too. “I never really cared about them”
Yeah people focus on Dany a lot, and for good reason, but pretty much every character was done incredibly dirty by D&D by the end of the show.
Season's worth of character development and inherent traits just shoved aside to move the plot to where they wanted it to go, regardless if it was established the characters would act that way, or it even made any sense for the character(Tyrion, for instance, is basically turned into a moron the last couple seasons as a cheap way to move the plot and build drama. Like gathering all the townsfolk into a fricking crypt where the dead army can raise the dead, and they know this! But ah, it created drama!!)

He still made the choice to bleed his wife to death for what wasn’t a sure thing based on her history of losing children. So yes, there telling you something about his desires and current mindset with that
All that power and all those dragons, yet the Targs haven't put 2 + 2 together on why their bloodline is weak AF.

I’m just glad to have football season and GoT back. I’m not overthinking either one.
The timing is not unnoticed. I used to joke that the only offseason longer than CFB was Game of Thrones, and that being a fan of both demonstrates some manner of self-loathing.

* Lighting. I HATE the damn lighting. Just like that Battle of Winterfell crap. Cut out the darkness.
It is a conundrum for the video editor. Adjust the scene for good play on the 95% or cut it for the 5% who have panels/PJs that can properly display the scenes. In a perfect world we would have two different cuts. I wish they would do this so people can see what is going on and I can still enjoy the dark scenes as intended. I just hope it doesn't end up like rock/pop sound over the years during the loudness wars and they highly compress the brightness dynamic range to appease people without leaving a way to watch it with full dynamic range.

Yep
IMO the other big problem is that directors/editors/cinematographers etc. are not accounting for the terrible compression from streaming and cable boxes AND that most people aren't sporting calibrated LG OLED's with perfect black levels.
Even with a calibrated LG OLED under optimal conditions, the compression and such from streaming made things like the Battle for Winterfell impossible to see details in and was a frustrating experience.

True but the book is a collection of the history during that time more than a story to be told for the screen.
Princess and the Queen? It's a novella with dialogue and a plot. I'm assuming this is the script they are trying to follow. It's the most accurate story of the characters in the history.

Based on what I saw in the first episode I would think so, especially creating some relationships outside of the book to enhance the plot for TV.

The book is sooooo gooood. I hate when they try and deviate. I get the time crunch of 20 chapters to one hour but don't make up a new plot. This starts out before P&Q so I like where it is going. P&Q starts at Viserys death.

I do not want to spoil it for non book readers but I do not think what was in the first episode was creating a new overall plot but will add a layer to what I think is going to happen ever more intriguing.

Without spoiling anything for non-readers, what kind of battles can we look forward to? Any on the same scale as BotB?

If they stay true to the story, it has everything: epic battles, drama, romance, dragon fights, incest, and lots of betrayal. I'm pumped. But there were no good guys or bad buys, just people who thought they were justified. I see they made Daemon evil. Oh well

I am not sure how quick of the timeline we will see in the first season but based on the book I would most definitely say yes and quite a few more than GoT.
Also the budget for the first season is doubled GoT budget person misus season 8 which it still higher than and my understanding future seasons may go up to 30 million an episode
Not to mention have close to 20 full grown dragons that partake in the upcoming events.

I tried watching the first episode. I made it 20 minutes and realized I would rather be doing anything else. There was simply nothing there intriguing enough to keep my attention after Viserys took the throne.

OP needs to put no book spoilers in the title. This book is so easy to give spoilers on because of the fast pace/history book feel to it. Characters just come and go so fast.

The Battle at Winterfell got so much hate for the lighting but honestly, I loved it. Pretty much the only episode of the season I liked, although a different ending would have been nice.
But I loved the lighting. It was a gritty, dirty, muddy, violent battle that took place at night and the lighting fit. It felt very realistic. And the dragon battle in the air was just just shot really well, the best cinematography of the final season by far to me.
