Bill Burr for me as far as current comedians.
Past favorites, 2 of whom are now dead are John Pinette and Richard Jeni. I found both of the damn funny, especially Pinette.

I don’t think Rogan is that funny standup wise but his podcast is one of the most popular in the country. I’d say he’s arguably the most successful overall right now.

Best comedian today I would gauge by their standup in person.
Bill Burr is probably the best right now or at least ‘hottest’ . Chris D’Elia is one of the most impressive in regards to being so much better live than watching one of his specials. He’s damn good.
If it’s money/movies. I don’t know, Kevin Hart maybe.
ETA Joe Rogan is hit or miss in person but yes about his podcast catapulting him
