I’ll be in theaters to see it as soon as I can. Costner, Western, count me in.

I'll be interested in whether it was really worth causing such a shitshow with TS over the filming schedule of Yellowstone. I've watched the show so often in the past year yet have yet to watch a new episode since my introduction was the initial airing of 1883 on the PN last summer.

I've read the movie could be closer to the Waterworld work of his career than the Dance With Wolves work.

Costner has finally probably got it figured out....with Yellowstone and now this.

He should just go full Western from here on out..

There was a thread last week, "can Westerns make a comeback?".

Costner might be our last hope.

Here for it.

Isn’t this whole thing supposed to be about 10-12 hours of total runtime?

Kevin Costner is an American treasure.
Westerns. Baseball. Apocalyptic water pirates.
These are the foundation of our country.

Also, epic westerns are BY FAR my favorite movie genre. I’m in.

My wife calls them my “pioneer movies.”
Jokes on her. She’s in too.

I'm super pumped about it, but reviews from the Cannes viewing were pretty poor. Doesn't mean all that much considering critic reviews should often be taken with a grain of salt. I'll decide for myself.

I think it looks pretty damn good. Costner can still pull off the hard nosed sumbitch.

I'm not taking advice from European snobs, especially when it comes to Westerns.

Don't forget the movie where he got a national monument type statute..

Most of their criticisms were that part 1 is all set up for part 2 and that it may have been better served as a limited series. There is not a long wait for part 2 so it shouldn’t be an issue if you go in expecting that.

Has there been any talk of who will get the streaming rights? Will it go to Paramount?

Love this user review on IMDb: This guy is welcome to come post on this board.

quote:

Read before listening to negative reviews
This is a 4 part series , 2 films will come Out this year , you need to view this as a limited series with each movie as one episode, which means episode one or movie 1 will not follow a 3 act structure , or if it does it may not feel like normal films. If you support Costner remember he put up his own money to make this film for us western and civil war era films. I would not pay attention to the critics at all, they are judging this film without remembering it's part 1 of 4. How many other films tell you ahead of time that you're getting that many parts? Costner intended to tell the story over 2 years and 4 parts which actually sounds great as that is why most of us prefer television series over film these days because we can invest so much more into the characters. It gives the storyteller much more time to give us character building, story telling and the little Details that make a great story which is hard to do in a standard 2-3 hr format. Give it a chance, Costner is rich and this film bombing won't be the end of him but Costner did something unheard of in Hollywood to try and bring us a genre that a lot of studios won't touch because they do not normally perform well and ..... he has entertained us for 4 decades!

ETA:
Only one of the six user reviews is a bad one. The other five are all 10/10's.

Thanks for this. I trust Costner. He can pull off an epic-style film like this.

I'm sure the same haters on this will be the people who hated Yellowstone.

Its ok to just be entertained. Not every piece of film needs to be a slow burn deconstruction breaking down barriers
