NOW... PLAIN ZERO!

I’m watching Running Man for the first time tonight. Obviously this movie is the definition of awesome, but seriously, who thought that line was a good idea? I’m pretty sure they just let Arnold ad-lib his one-liners and didn’t bother with a second take.

"You cold hearted bastard! I'll tell you what I think about it! I'll live to see you eat that contract, but I hope you leave enough room for my fist because I'M GOING TO RAM IT INTO YOUR STOMACH, AND BREAK YOUR GOD DAMNED SPINE!! NYAHH!!!"

Dynamo has to be the stupidest villain ever. From the Lite Brite suit to the opera to the car that’s barely more than a golf cart, everything about him screams bad idea.

He totally fits in this movie, though.

I remember the first time watching it and thinking someone must have owed that Dynamo guy a huuuuge favor.

It was the 80s. I don't know if you could tell by the dialogue, gratuitous violence, and costumes but, movies could be a bit over the top.

love this movie

First saw it on VHS taped off HBO. The scene at the beginning where the dude gets his head blown off when he runs past the security perimeter with his collar on freaked me out

Of all the 80s remakes I would think this one would be primed

Casting Richard Dawson was fantastic. An actor who moved on to gameshows moving to movies playing a gameshow host.

That Ben Richards is one mean Mfer....

Yeah - a remake w(c)ould be glorious.

Hell, Ventura would probably be ok coming back for it.

What??? The definition of awesome would have been sticking to the Bachman book.

sticking to the Bachman book

What was the difference?

I read those in the 80s so I don't remember. I am sure the campy tone was absent from the book. What else?

Pretty much the whole thing. I won't give details because they would all be spoilers for anyone that wants to read it. I don't remember all of the details but about the only thing the book and movie had in common was the title and a theme of a demented game show.

Dynamo

One of the most interesting cats who ever passed through Hollywood played Dynamo - Erland Van Lidth De Jeude. From a Dutch noble family, he was untitled nobility himself. He was a world class wrestler, including being an alternate on the 1976 Dutch Olympic team, a professional singer (operatic) and juggled careers as singer, actor and information technology (during IT's relative childhood and adolescence in the 1970s and 1980s) with a degree from MIT.

Best known to American film audiences for his roles as The Terror in The Wanderers, Grossberger in Stir Crazy and Dynamo in Running Man , the 6'6", ~400lb man died at 34, a few months after filming his scenes as Dynamo.
