Hey dillweed, I correctly pointed out that Heat isn't a "shoot 'em up" movie, but a heist film. Lots of competition in that genre. Consider The Town, the Ocean's movies, Inside Man, National Treasure, The Italian Job, Logan Lucky, Reservoir Dogs, Inception, Jackie Brown, Drive, Thomas Crown Affair, Heist, Thief, Ronin. The list goes on.

Whenever I watch Heat, I forget that Waingro (John Diehl) was Detective Zito on Miami Vice for a few years.

Heat is a top tier heist and action movie.
It's perfect in every way but it really shines in sound mixing.
The ending shootout is spectacular i wish they'd rerelease in GPX

Den of thieves is a fun ride but owes everything to Heat and in some cases is a direct ripoff of Heat - especially that scene you mention

The sound design in the final bank scene is second to none even to this day.
When the guns fire off in Heat, they are loud as frick and ricochet off the surrounding buildings, exactly how it would be in real life.
The way they reload is exactly how it should look.
