I really like the source material, just wondering if the show stays true to it or just steals its name. I'm gonna end up watching it but not sure if i should hold off until after march madness or try to make time

I'm an episode and a half in. I wish they'd kept the plot all in China to be honest, but Americans are lazy when it comes to media consumption.
It's odd right out of the gate. Making the lead a hot brunette was very surprising in today's political climate. Her bf being a dumb male however was not surprising ??

Except for Ye Wenjie, and the Chinese Cultural Revolution scenes, almost all of the characters are whites and blacks. And it looks like the series takes place in England rather than China. The character portraying Da Shi, is played by Benedict Wong, but he has a British accent and is called Clarence for some reason.
But I've only watched the first episode, so maybe some of this changes.
