This argument will be moot in 5 - 10 years when TiVo/DVR's are full blown media PC's and you're HDTV is seen as little more than a sweet arse computer monitor. You just won't be able to think of them seperately.

Great question, but it's gotta be HD for me.

nap you're forgetting about the interwebz. If you miss a show just catch that shite online. HD makes sports and certain shows 100x better.

Really tough for me, but it has to be DVR....it has completely changed how I watch TV. No HD would suck, but I suspect most of the people answering HD either don't have a DVR or just don't watch mutch TV.

ETA:None of this watching it online bullshite...in this hypothetical world there is no internet TV (besides, you can watch a lot of internet TV in HD, so it fricks up the original question).

Bump.

After reading the "FFWD through commercials" thread I thought this thread would be good for the movie/tv board.

Gotta go with DVR. I have 5 year old twins, and when we're at the grandparents, it drives them crazy that they can't pause a show to go pee.

Now if they can come up with a device that let's you fast forward through commercials while watching live, life will be really good..

Sure he can. I think it's pretty clear this isn't HD vs. DVR but "next gen" picture quality vs. easy time shifting. Choosing HD because you really like HD more than DVR is fine, but choosing HD because you use the Internet as a DVR is not.

If I had to pick one, knowing I could never have the other, I would pick a Tivo in a heartbeat...not just any DVR...it would have to be a Tivo, or something a lot better than the crappy Comcast DVR I once had.

:Kige: Any DVR besides TiVo sucks arse.
