If you go by consistency and greatness throughout their career, I have to say it's Robert Duvall. The man was nominated for an Oscar two years ago at age 82. Just an amazing brilliant actor who always gives a great performance no matter what type of film he's in.

After seeing The Revenant, DiCaprio is the most dedicated to immersing himself in his roles right now.
A 2.5 hour movie filmed in sub zero temps that was crazy

It's Duval... Not close. I can't stand Day-Lewis Pretentiousness and constantly staying in character.
I also have no idea if Day-Lewis can play a everyman like Duval did so many times. Lewis is always playing some huge "actory" role. Duval exposed Hi. Self much more became he was just in so many more films. You could tell he loved it, and had sense of humor about how douchy actors can be.
Bobby is a real guy who juts happens to be an extraordinary actor and takes all aspects of the art quite seriously, acting, directing, writing etc.
Day-Lewis just seems like a dude you would not want to be around.
Plus he never played this guy...

Well it's a good thing we don't hang around any of these guys in real life, so who gives a shite about that aspect?
I would also throw Christian Bale in the mix

Tom Hanks is the greatest and there's really no competition. He's the modern day Jimmy Stewart

Hackman, Hanks, Day-Lewis - in that order.
