Oh trust me I'm going in with the same expectations I had when I heard about the ball getting rolling on this project. I'm going to leave all of the trailers and such behind. I never let that affect me once I pull up to the theater.

Just saying, this:

I'll probably fall in the like it category.

Doesn't sound like it.

That's my expectation going in for now. That's what I expect. Now once I get in there, I'll take what I have and then I'll see if it was what I thought it was afterwards, but when I walk in, I have a clean slate if that makes sense.

??? You and I have a very different idea of clean slate and no expectations.

I'm saying that when I expect for it to be a 7-7.5, that's how I'll probably feel when I get out, but that's only a guesstimate based on how I feel about everything so far. It could be a 10, it could be crap.

But what you've seen so far is a big fat nothing. You've seen what marketers want you to see, not what Cuaron wants you to see. Your expectations mean absolutely nothing because you haven't consumed a single bit of the film as he meant it, outside of a small 2 minute montage that isn't even a complete 2 minutes of the film. It's a re-cut of film sequences.

This is correct.

But you can't go in with no expectations if you

quote:

expect for it to be a 7-7.5,

That is the definition of an expectation.

You're the guy that called me out for judging Don Jon by the trailer, yet now you think
quote:

Trailers for movies are just like ads for other products. If the company doesn't do enough to get me interested in the product, then why the hell should I waste my time going out and giving them the benefit of the doubt?

At least your reasoning is consistently inconsistent.

can people just fricking stop talking about how a trailer didn't get them excited and just go watch the fricking movie when its out and find out for themselves if its any good or not?

Nope, I will not waste my time or money on a movie that doesn't appear to be the least bit interesting. I'll wait and probably watch it on FX in 5 years when it comes on after Armageddon and before Men in Black 3.

It's going to be a box office hit as well.

Pamela McClintock ?@PamelaDayM
#Gravity takes flight with $1.4 million Thursday night. And it's selling more advance 3D tickets than 'Avatar' on Fandango.

Anything over 30 million this weekend is a win. It will do well on word of mouth, stay in the theater for a little bit, and then get another showing during awards season. I also think it will do well overseas. Really well.

I really want Cuaron to make some money on this so he can get bankrolled for whatever he wants to do next, and we don't have to wait 7 years to see it.

I'm gonna take a risk by going out on a limb and say this movie will make around $50 million at the box office this weekend. The high pre-sales, the star power, the incredible reviews, all of it will combine for a successful weekend.
