I got a better question

Why does Bran, the omniscient 3 eyed raven, need a master of whispers?

I have no damn clue why Greyworm’s opinion matters once he headed to Naath.

What are they going to do over there? Are they just going to show up and stand around with their dicks in their hands?

Oh wait.

But seriously, they have no purpose.

"We are here to protect you"
"From what?"

And I fully expect to see some SJW rant fest about how the Dothraki were "marginalized" at the end, or some similarly shrill bullshite.

This series really fell off the cliff once the ridiculous plan to capture a wight to show Cersei was hatched.

Basic answer, "We still need some place to put extra sons and shitty people."

But that answer falls apart when you consider that the Wall now lies within the borders of the North - a now separate kingdom ruled over by Sansa Stark. She could have easily pardoned him and sent for him to come to Winterfell as soon as her coronation was over and done with.

So who is lord of Casterly Rock with Tyrion as HOTK?

He is. Tywin and Jon Arryn didn't stop being lords when they were hands.

Guys I think you’re missing the point. They never intended to send him to the knights watch. They reunited him with the free folk, with the knight watch thing as a cover. I mean the episode still sucked, but they gave Jon what he wanted.

S7 is a huge part of why S8 failed to hit the mark.

How was this not obvious?

I know. Clearly there was foreshadowing a couple of episodes ago when Jon said he wish he was going with the free folk. That was pretty major foreshadowing

Why are they closing the gate at the wall?

It's not needed anymore. No threat, no reason to ever go back south of it.

Soooo... how about the whole watch Brienne write in silence for 2 minutes followed by more silence and Tyrion tidying up the council table?

Well, the writing was just freaking lazy and had little behind it this season. The only part tonight that I liked was Brienne writing Jaime's deeds in the White Book. Jon's fate was the worst if it, just plain stupid, because:

a. There is no need for the Night's Watch
b. As someone else pointed out, the North is now ruled by Sansa, so she could just pardon him once he got up there
c. The only ones with a beef with Jon were the Dothraki and Unsullied, and they all left.

How about ol buddy giving a speech then banging his sword on the post. It fit the scene really well.

Was fan service to Jamie fans, his memory. And that was "symbolic" writing. Tyrion being the one to clean up the mess left by other powerful people. Or some shite.

Possibly one of the best parts of the episode

Right, the Red Keep was arse raped by a dragon, but the small council table just needed to have the chairs straightened. Put this right there with Dany suddenly having this big army of Dothraki and unsullied after we saw most of the Dothraki killed at Winterfell and a large percentage of the Unsullied as well.

The gate closing was a mirror to the second scene of the series IIRC.

Was Sam the Lord of Horn Hill, or a Maester of the Citadel?

Technically, he's Maester of Castle Black. As a member of the Night's Watch, he gave up his claim to Horn Hill and he's a relatively new (if that) Maester. Is he really the best choice for Grand Maester (especially when it seems he left the Citadel BEFORE finishing his study)?

Sorta like Walter and Jesse standing and facing each other in a dark parking lot by a car.
