casting callout for the red wedding:
even better.
quote:
To that end, a casting notice has gone out in Ireland seeking male amputees who are missing a leg. “You must be OK and comfortable with filming a scene within the context of a battle where your leg has been injured,” the notice says. “Prosthetic makeup will be applied as though your leg has newly been severed.” Grim stuff, no?
even better.

t appears that filming is well under way for the Red Wedding, the biggest event in A Storm of Swords and one of the most defining moments in the A Song of Ice and Fire series. What sealed the deal in confirming that this was the RW being filmed? According to McDoodils:
What confirmed the “Red Wedding” for me was Mr Higgins revealing that [Imagine the Irish accent] “A massacre took place last night” and “major characters got their heads removed and sewed onto an ox.” I will admit I did laugh out loud at this point, obviously I explained what I thought it was.
Most likely, the landowner saw the corpse of a direwolf but didn’t realize that’s what it was, not being a fan of the show. It’s also possible that they did use an ox to simulate the gruesome head-swapping of Robb and Grey Wind, and that the ox will be CGI-ed into a direwolf in post-production.

Still not as bad as the wait between books.
The writers actually said before this season that they did not plan to get all of SOS into this season. That, plus the fact that I still think they'll stretch this series to about 10 seasons so that GRRM can keep up as he writes the final 2 books, makes me think that the PW may start off the next season. I could see episode 9 ending with Arya taking the axe to the back of the head and leaving her fate hanging until next season. Episode 10 will certainly center on Dany and Stannis, and may give us the birth of Stoneheart, or at least the brotherhood dragging her from the river. I'm thinking that the season will end with "you know nothing John Snow".
That should leave the non-readers with about the same level of "WTF just happened?" as we did after reading the book.

Also, on Sandor still being alive, I believe that the gravedigger theory is dead on and that he eventually faces and kills FrankenGregor.

I know this is a screencap, but she looks awfully nervous in the middle.

Episode 10 everyone (but Tyrion and Sansa) are laughing and having a good time and then boom, Joffrey is purple
I hope they first do the midget jousting and then tyrion faces off against joffrey.

Arya might see her mother's corpse through Nimeria, but that's as far as they're taking it with her this season. I'm thinking they build Stoneheart up over the next season, and still make that the final scene where she kills those pesky Freys.

I'm thinking instead that Joffrey goes through with serving Sansa Robb's head, and Tyrion then obviously flips his shite over it.

I saw someone confirm it as 1:30 last week.
Awesome. Looks like we're going to be getting it then.

Since I know what's coming, I don't really have a problem with PW being either this year or next year.
It's hard to put myself in the position of a non reader to see what their reaction would be if they did the RW in the 9th episode, left Arya fate undisclosed and ended the season with other story lines in the 10th episode.
Prior to the season, I'd say it may have pissed a lot of people off and maybe lost some viewers. But to be honest, it doesn't seem like they've been able to make Robb or Cat sympathetic characters to the extent that people will be as devastated as book readers were when the RW happened.
Also, there has not been a whole lot of Joffrey lately this season. Last week's off screen cross bowing of Ros and his chat with Tywin didn't really up the hate factor.
Of course, they will probably give us some good hate Joffrey moments and maybe a couple of love Robb moments in the next couple of weeks.
For me, it's a 50/50 shot they do the Purple Wedding this season.

Wait! I thought Robb's wife waited in Riverrun in the books and was not at the RW?

I think the RW will be episode 9 instead of 10 (like the Blackwater battle last season and Ned getting killed in season 1).

It'll definitely be episode 9. The question is if the Purple Wedding is the grand finale.

Episode 10 will end with the PW. The camera slowly zooms out from Joffrey's dead body, and the credits roll. Then everyone spends a year (almost) wondering who poisoned him.

Nah, I'd rather it be this:
quote:
"My lord, I . . . I do not understand . . . Joffrey gave you Harrenhal, made you Lord Paramount of the Trident . . . why . . . "
"Why should I wish him dead?" Littlefinger shrugged. "I had no motive. Besides, I am a thousand leagues away in the Vale. Always keep your foes confused. If they are never certain who you are or what you want, they cannot know what you are like to do next. Sometimes the best way to baffle them is to make moves that have no purpose, or even seem to work against you. Remember that, Sansa, when you come to play the game."
"What . . . what game?"
"The only game. The Game of Thrones."

Yeah. No doubt the RW will be epi 9. The question to me is whether epi 10 will contain the PW. And just in general what they will do with the episode.

i remember being at work and as the Tyrion's chapter ended, I went and hid in the maintenance closet to keep reading. It literally blew my mind when LF reveals he's behind everything and I sat with my hands on my temples staring at the floor just trying to absorb the awesomeness.
