well fighting in the open during war is not fighting in closed spaces during a street ambush
for one, their weapon is the spear. it's not of much use in a confined hallway
but they should have done better by going back to back and b/c they have shields

though I fear for his resilience on the matter when she dropped the "you know nothing Jon Snow" line.
i think that's just to entice him to join the cause (of the fire god). she'd only know to say that if she can "see" igrit

Ygritte was a redhead, perhaps she served the fire god.

Once Jon figures out he's a Targ and only a cousin to her, he's gonna be all over Sansa

i was thinking of the similar pubic hair as she had john rubbing her tommen

In the books isn't Danny told a story about a small group of Unsullied holding off thousands of Dothraki? These Unsullied, minus Greyworm, obviously never finished their training.

The unsullied never squared off like that in the books. The harpy would sneak attack two of them at a time in the night and that's about it.

I'm talking about when Danny first learned about the them. Doesn't Jorah tell her a story about them?
Posted on 5/3/15 at 10:27 pm to UMRealist
Yes but it was against a Dothraki army that prefers an open field, that's the whole point.

Here is the story:
quote:
Four hundred years ago, 3,000 Unsullied saved the Free City of Qohor from destruction at the hands of Khal Temmo and his khalasar of 20,000 riders. Before the Unsullied arrived there from their long march, Temmo and his Dothraki massacred the Qohorik city guard and cavalry, while their two mercenary companies, one of them the Second Sons, broke their contract and fled. The Unsullied, however, slipped past the Dothraki while they feasted and were placed between the horde and the city. As the Dothraki have always held infantry in contempt, fit only to be ridden down, they charged instead of flanking them. Eighteen times the horselords charged and eighteen times the Unsullied locked their shields and held the line. By the end the battle only 600 Unsullied remained, but 12,000 Dothraki lay dead, including Temmo and his sons. The new Khal led the survivors past the city gates, one by one throwing their cut braids before the feet of the Unsullied. Since that day the Unsullied are employed both by cities and the rich of Essos.
Here is their fighting tactics:
quote:
Unsullied battle tactics are based on the legions of the old Ghiscari Empire, involving large groups of them fighting in lock-step phalanxes using spear and shield, though they are also trained to use shortswords for close-quarters combat. Slave-eunuchs who have been trained from birth to fight, the Unsullied are renowned for their utter discipline on the battlefield, both in their usage of incredibly coordinated large unit phalanx formations, and because they will never break in the face of overwhelming odds, even to the point of death.

This show has now officially taken a hard right turn off the path of the books and has dove into, "Different shite happens to characters with similar names and similar backgrounds as in the Song of Ice and Fire series." - I mean seriously, nothing that happened in the show tonight happened in the books, except Mormont did kidnap Tyrion. Nothing else lines up, period.

i think its dumb selmy was supposed to be this legendary swordsman. bron is out there dropping 4 guys on horseback with ease and selmy gets raped by 6 guys in masks with shite vision.
eta:: producers seem to pick and choose when they want/need a bad arse. i bet if brons time ever comes he somehow loses a fight to underwhelming odds as well.

Selmy killed 10 guys with ease. Then another 2 after her was stabbed.

I agree that Selmy's death sucks. I understand why the Davids are doing it, but it still sucks.
My first thought about Mace being sent to Bravvos with Cercei henchman was that he was going to be killed on the way. Never thought about the ship making it there for Arya to do her thing.
Loved the scenes of Tommen. Best was the "you coming back to my room tonight?" bit.

That's a good point.

Are we sure he's dead at this point?
I know this isn't the same story now - not by a long shot - unless this is supposed to be the catalyst for Dany's major shift and the return of Jorah (with Tyrion).
And I'm not a purist on this - I don't bristle at every change, but they spend so much valuable screen time telling a story that literally doesn't exist in the book, it makes it more inexcuable when they claim they don't have time for this character/story or that (and I do understand that cast costs/politics are a bigger driver in this - it is simply impossible to cast every character in ASOIAF - and I wouldn't even attept it either) - at this point they are merely telling a story in the key of ASOIAF.
