I'm hoping we can keep this thread and the Crackpot thread going through the long off-season.

So how is everyone's book reading going?

Just finished first chapter of A Feast for Crows.

Holy shite on the ending of Storm of Swords. Season 4 of the show is going to be insane.

Aside from the Red Wedding and Jaime rescuing Brienne from the bear pit, my favorite parts of the book are in the second half.

Reading through some of those chapters at the end of SoS, it was so easy to visualize how HBO could potentially pull off some of those "events".

I can't wait.

George RR Martin himself couldn't kill off that thread.

So many Hodors becoming Book Reading Bastards. Perhaps there is hope for the country.

I read the first 3 books in between seasons 1 and 2, then I hit a serious lull about halfway through Feast. Finally finished it a few weeks ago and hopefully I can move through Dance at a decent pace.

You can read the books.

Or catch up on other great shows such as Breaking Bad, Sopranos, The Wire, etc.

Yeah, maybe read. All my other shows are on break. May start another. I started deadwood but fell off after a couple.

Just finished Homeland too.

I think most everyone would be ecstatic if it came out in only two years.

Why has there been so much time between the recent books? There were only 2 years between AGoT, ACoK, and ASoS. Then 6 years for AFfC and 5 years for ADwD.

Take your pick of theories, GRRM reported having trouble figuring out how to intertwine the time lines of several of his stories, most notably how to line up Dany's timeline where she is currently to the events of Westeros (this is referred to as the Mereneese Knot, a name which was jokingly used to refer to a sexual position used by one of Littlefinger prostitutes in the scene with Podrick Payne, Tyrion's squire). Many people think GRRM simply spends too much time going to conventions and working on other projects than writing the damn books.

This thread has spoilers up to the end of season 3 of the show, but (hopefully) no book info beyond that. I would stay out unless you are up to date on the show. If up to date on the show, this thread is safe for readers of all levels.
