Did it say she was pregnant when she was kidnapped? Or was she even kidnapped. Does it insinuate she was banging Raegar on the side.

I'm not sure all those facts have even been revealed in the books yet - it is possible that she became pregnant with Rhaegar's child and the kidnapping was faked to conceal that. The more I think about it, the more I believe that was a Romeo and Juliet thing going on there and produced Jon Snow.

Hot Pie is low born - right now, Gendry has the best claim - better than Stannis or any of the faux-Baratheons if the truth were known - really it's Dany and Gendry with the best argument for the Iron Throne, using the internal logic of the show. However, as the show brutally illustrates, it's not about the rules everybody agreed to - it's about who has the stones to take/hold power (i.e. Tywin Lannister).

I figured this was the best place to point out that since Gendry is a bastard, he has no claim to the Iron Throne. So Stannis and Dany have the best claims. But like you said, it's really all about having the power to take/hold the throne.

The thing is, if he were Robert's bastard, why hide him? Granted, there was the bastard killing spree in book 2/season 2 so that none of them could refute Joffrey's claim, b Robert has plenty of bastards .

All I can say is, as a book reader, the Rhaegar Lyanna theory is more likely because of the time frame of events that occurred during Robert's Rebellion. But being the trickster that GRRM is, Jon may very well be Ned's son.

I really hope I'm not treading in spoiler territory, but the Crackpot thread has a lotttt more speculation about this theory.

Yeah i almost pointed this out but felt it better to just let it be. this is the perfect spot for that though

That is a good point, but bastards do come into play when there is a vacuum - especially a vacuum of males. And, in this case, if it were proven that Robert left no legitimate male heir, a bastard (how can they do that if he isn't acknowledged? ) would have a better claim than a female. Perhaps not greater than Stannis, but Gendry is a direct line.

Dany's claim is a legacy claim, but that family had been displaced - a claim like that would have merit, but only insofar as the people are unhappy with the current crop of faux-Baratheons.

Lyanna is dead though correct?? Robert killed Rhaegar after the "kidnapping" but I don't remember them saying how she died or that she died, just that Rhaegar kidnapped her. I haven't read any of the books all this is coming from the DVD extras.

I thought it might have something to do with Tywin's hatred of bastards and he knew he was going to end up with Cersei.

Yeah, the other part of my theory is that she died shortly after giving birth to Jon Snow - thus her last words "Promise me, Ned." I think Robert might have known this part of it, but thought the child died, too (or maybe he believed that Rhaegar killed her, intentionally). I think Ned brought the child to a low-born woman in King's Landing, to nurse the child for a few months, or whatever, then brought him back to Winterfell after the war and presented him to Cat as his bastard.

Lyanna died in the Tower of Joy in Dorne towards the end of Robert's Rebellion. Ned has a dream in book 1 about it. There's a clip of the GoT book narrator guy reading the dream sequence on YouTube. That dream sequence, which was left out of season 1 of the show, is where a lot of the speculation comes from.

Ned Stark dream sequence

Then you also have this clip from season 1. Ned promises Jon he will tell him who his mother is, and he gets teary-eyed saying it.

Jon and Ned talk about his mother

Then both Bran and Rickon have a dream that Ned died in book 1. Bran said he saw Ned in the crypts of Winterfell, and said he was sad and regretted not talking to Jon.
