One thing that bugs me about the ending is that they refer to Godzilla as "The King of Monsters" when Godzilla is a female.

Godzilla is a male.

godzilla's screen time did piss me off though. too much plot for a movie about a giant mutant lizard, but at the same time, I think the plot was pretty well done. they just needed less obstructed views of Godzilla. keep the plot the way it is, but stop covering Godzilla with smoke, stop cutting away from the few times it shows him in full view, etc, and it's an even better movie.

Have you seen the movie "Monsters"? It was directed by the same guy (Gareth Edwards) and was filmed exactly the same way. He even said as much before Godzilla was released.

Expressly, yes.

However (and I am admittedly without knowledge on this one), "Son of Godzilla" had to come from somewhere, right? CAVEAT: the IMDB summary refers to it as "his" son.

That would support Godzilla being asexual because it was neither male or female in '98

He's 350 feet tall, has atomic breath, can breath underwater, at times knows judo and can fly... I'm quite certain having a son wouldn't pose much of a problem for him. Much like Chuck Norris. If Chuck Norris wanted a son, he would have one. Godzilla's the same way.

Otherwise, it'd be Goddesszilla.

monsters was a great movie and the monsters weren't shown because it was such a low budget. it also didn't have a history as a giant monster movie franchise. it's okay for it to be more plot driven than action because of those 2 reasons.

Godzilla is supposed to be a giant monster destroying cities and fighting other giant monsters. add as much plot to that as your heart desires, but don't do it at the expense of the backbone of the movie.

They showed a lot of the MUTOs wrecking shite so that was fine with me, especially since they went the savior Godzilla route.

Godzilla is only going to get a certain amount of screen time. If you replace the MUTOs with King Ghidorah, which I imagine the second movie will be like then I don't think there would be as much complaining about a lack of Godzilla.

my biggest gripe with the movie is the lack of screen time for godzilla as well. i agree that had it been ghidorah, rodan or any other famous monster instead of the muto getting all the screen time than it would have been more tolerable, unfortunately it wasn't.

honestly what i really would like to see is godzilla done like batman begins; really dark, with zero campiness. make godzilla the bad guy and retell the original 1954 story set in japan.

Yes. It got a little slow in the middle but it's a great popcorn movie.

I really enjoyed it.

Way better than that abomination that came out in 1998.
