Eh... it was what it was. A cheesy Godzilla/Kong buddy movie. That was actually enjoyable to watch.

Guess you haven’t seen one of the best movies of the 2020s.

Mid at best. The 2014 film will always be the best because of how intimidating and dark it was.

You're right about these monsterverse Godzilla films, but this take makes me think that you saw the 2014 film as a idiotic 10 year old. It's not better than its sequels. And that you've committed hard to that 2020s quality take regardless of any contrary evidence, such as Godzilla Minus One.

I would add Kong:Skull Island but agreed.

Most are bad and absolutely terrible but I love them like bad Predator and Alien movies. Don’t get me wrong, I have criticisms when they suck (Alien:Resurrection, AvP: Requiem , The Predator, etc.)

The issues you raised were regarding plot and acting in monster movies.

The story was fantastic, with very well developed characters, emotional depth, and strong themes. If you didn’t like the acting then I assume you watched only watched the dubbed version.

Sure, the 2020s haven’t been a great movie era and isn’t too high of a bar, but there are some excellent movies and that is one of them.

Nope. This is obviously the best Godzilla movie ever made. Followed by the Original and then Minus One (but those are interchangeable). I'll forgive you the oversight of this classic.

Watch this scene from the 2014 Godzilla film. Look at how dark the lighting and cinematography is. Godzilla is so darkly lit that he looks like a mysterious entity that has been dormant for millions of years. The 2014 film wasn’t about mindless rampage like the later films, it’s was about presenting Godzilla as a frightening, mysterious spectacle of a creature that terrorizes the planet. Cinematography-wise and tone-wise, it really isn’t a typical Monsterverse film. It’s more of a standalone monster film which is why I give it a pass. You’re not going to convince me that any of the films that came out after are better, because they’re not.

Imagine seeing that on an IMAX screen when it came out in 2014. It would be like seeing the T-rex scene from Jurassic Park.

That native tribe in the last movie wouldn't shut up the entire time.

Unfortunately from what I've read they're trying to incorporate more human characters

That’s a massive understatement. Movies from the last 5 years are awful in every sense of the word. They’re plagued by lack of creative license due to corporate control, abysmal screenwriting, political activists who were hired as directors and have absolutely no fricking idea what their doing, rushed production, terrible lighting and cinematography, and terrible CGI.

One thing I absolutely hate about movies from this decade is the cinematography and lighting. Almost all of the major Hollywood movies from the last 5 years look like insurance commercials due to how brightly lit they are. Characters are so brightly lit that there’s no shadows and dark spots where there would normally be one. They have a bland and uninspiring aesthetic to them with no flavor. There are low-budget films from the 90s and 2000s that have better lighting and cinematography than many of the Hollywood films that come out today.

Since traditional 35mm film is pretty much obsolete now and digital is the norm, many directors and producers just say frick it when it comes to putting in the effort to create stylistic sound stages with good lighting and pre-set camera angles. They simply take the lazy and easy route by shooting the entire film in front of a huge green screen. It’s why 80% of the Hollywood market is dominated by $200M budget MCU/Disney films. Those kinds of films are easy to mass produce because they require little to no effort in cinematography, world building, visual aesthetic, and character development.
