I thought Traffic and Hidden Dragon were good, but not to the level I could be unhappy they lost to Gladiator.
Hollywood likes epics. Gladiator is epic and Crowe and Phoenix both deliver.

Only 2 things I remember being great from Traffic are Benicio and he won an Oscar for it and the editing and Stephen Mirrione won an Oscar for that. Doesn't feel short changed.
Erin Brockovich got an Oscar for Julia Roberts and a nom for Albert Finney so it doesn't feel shortchanged either.
I feel like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was shortchanged. Would have given it Best Picture and Best Director.
