I agree. I think the reason it doesn't get the acclaim is it's shot like a network tv cop show. If it had the HBO/AMC cinematography, it'd be widely considered one of the best shows ever.

Agreed. I was so caught up with the dialog and performances the first time through that it never dawned on me that it was all shot in California instead of Kentucky. Had they moved production there and shot in Appalachia and had the budget to shoot it well, it would be considered among the very best.

I mean, it already is for me but I can see that kind of stuff holding it back for others.

Is it because I’m black?

The dialogue is absolutely elite but the casting in this show is incredible.

Olyphant as Raylan, Goggins as Boyd, Joelle Carter does a great job as Ava, I still have a crush on Natalie Zea as Winona.

Nevermind Wynn Duffy, Gutterson, Dewey Crowe, Art, the Bennetts all steal the show at one point or another.

They fricking DESTROYED when casting for this show.

Justified is in my all time top 3 but the actress who played 'Rachel' is perhaps the worst actress I have ever seen. It was painful when she had dialogue. She's in some other show now and it's the same dry nothing delivery, but she still gets work so good on her.

Just from acting and dialogue, it’s on the level of Breaking Bad. Only reason it’s not as good overall is cause there isn’t a set story from beginning to end like Breaking Bad.

Get the frick out.

That was a pretty universal take during the shows run and immediately after nostalgia winning the battle there over time I guess but I stand by that the theme song stinks out loud and is completely off from the actual vibe of the show.

They made some incredible season ending songs. That one from the Mags season about Harlan was amazing

You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive? Yeah that was awesome.

I dunno, tho. When the cold open would end and that swell into the kick drum...then that tawngy guitar hits.

GOOD.

My husband's doing a rewatch now. We splurged on the DVD set because we knew we'd want to see it again.

We are about fifty miles (as the crow flies) south of there, and there were some mountain scenes that just grated. But for the actors, they felt right.
