George Lucas reportedly scouting locations for Obi-Wan Kenobi movie

Star Wars creator George Lucas was in Belfast before Christmas checking out locations for a new stand-alone film centring on the life of Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi - with Ewan McGregor reprising the role he first played in 1999 prequel The Phantom Menace.
There has been speculation the film will be directed by Stephen Daldry whose hits include Billy Elliot, The Reader and hit TV series The Crown.
It's understood that it was to give his seal of approval to the latest Star Wars spin-off being shot in Northern Ireland - a move that will pump millions of pounds into the local economy.
"We've been told there will be work throughout 2019 because Star Wars is coming to Belfast," said an insider.
"It was all very low key, only a few people knew that the old guy walking round the set was George Lucas. It was only when we were told about Star Wars coming here next year that it dawned on us that was why he was here before Christmas."

I don't care if all he is doing is scouting. Why would anyone let that no talent fat-necked hack anywhere near a movie production?

The Last Jedi may have actually benefited from his involvement. It couldn’t have made it worse.

Still not as bad as Leia going all Peter Pan in space.

I disagree. That was one isolated situation. The examples I gave were entire species, forced into the plot, which ruined entire movies and trilogies.

No talent?
Ewan McGregor was one of the best casting decisions ever done in a sci fi film. Prequels might have been not the best, but I'm sure George has learned a lot and I actually would love to see him direct this movie, though I doubt he will.

Let's get real for a moment here, if there's any character that George Lucas hadn't sandbagged it's Obi-Wan.
So the question is do we really want Disney to hire some up-and-coming filmmaker to tackle Obi-Wan, or do we just go ahead and let the guy that knows how to do that character right.
You let Lucas do this you're probably going to get a run-of-the-mill Jedi Adventure, nothing more nothing less.
You let Disney pick their man and we're going to have writers swinging for the fences, and at the end of the day it's going to be revealed in Star Wars lore that Obi-Wan never existed at all, he was all a dream.

This. He was one of the few bright spots in the prequels. Despite a complete lack of physical sets, atrocious dialogue, and often having no actual character to interact with in many scenes, he managed to still put in a pretty fantastic acting performance.

Northern Ireland doesn't look much like Tatooine

If George were to write the story I’d be all for it. He’s fricking dog shite at directing but we all know the man is creative as hell and can come up with a damn good story.

No one knows how to frick Star Wars like George Lucas. Disney could put out ten straight Jar Jar origin films, and they still wouldn't come close to catching Lucas.

How anyone can trust Lucas with anything after years of bitching on this board is beyond me.
What part of your childhood didn't he ruin that now needs redressing?
Disney sucks but I'm done with Lucas touching anything regardless of Star Wars...anything...anything. Hack writer and turns out...made a career out of being a nothing special director - which is why he hardly ever directed because he knew he sucked.

Because that no talent hack made two of most revolutionary films of the 1970s BEFORE he even set foot on a Star Wars set.
Say what you want about many of Lucas' choices in the prequels, but the man is a cinematic genius. No he probably doesn't need to direct it, but collaborating with a Larry Kadsden took Star Wars to another level.
And from what we've just scene from The newest Star Wars efforts, I'll gladly take the guy who wrote and directed these scenes to tell a good story.

Your top gif shows JarJar using drunken boxing to perfectly kill 3 Droid while making it appear effortless and clunky. Because he's an extremely well trained Sith master.
But this movie is a horrible idea. Because it's either going to retcon the prequels and show Obi-Wan in one of those God awful training schools as a youngling full of midiclorines and they'll bring Yoda back and shite on him some more and then find another Quigonn.
or it's going to ruin the idea that he's just been watching over Luke his whole life. And it's going to be some awful nonsense. Obi-Wan was trained by Yoda and Quigonn. Then he trained Anakin. Then he hid on Tatooine both to watch over Luke and to avoid Vader. Then he trained Luke. Then Vader killed him. End of Story. He's one of the best parts of Star Wars and he wasn't completely ruined by the prequels.
DO SOMETHING ELSE. HAVE A CREATIVE frickING THOUGHT. STOP REHASHING AND RUINING THE OLD MOVIES OUT OF LAZINESS AND CORPORATE GREED. NEEEEEERRRRRDDDDD RRRRRAAAGGGGEEE

This is only what people want it to be to erase the memory of the lamest character in history.

Sourcing your own rant isn't useful. Neither is the video.
Darth Jar Jar isn't happening. Sorry bout it.
