It took two or three more chapters for it to sink in that Martin had actually killed his main character off in the first book.

but isn't this the beauty of the whole series? i don't think i'd qualify ANYONE as a "main character" because they are all main characters.

But, watching the series is kind of cool not knowing what is about to happen

This novel Tyrion is definitely the main character, he has by far the most chapters dedicated to himself.

I'm reading it now.....almost half done and his chapters are, by far, the most fun to read. I also think Arya has a nice plot line building and I hope this translates to the show.

Having read all of the books, Tyrion is by far my favorite character. His smartass comments towards everyone is very amusing and the fact that he constantly aggravates Cersei makes him even better

Dany, Arya, and Tyrion are my favorite characters right now.

I'd like to read the books if I ever have time.
